“pelham hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2014

stayed at the Pelham hotel Monday night for my birthday. the hotel was very clean, a little old, but found everything good for the price. Not much on frills, no desk or place to put things in the interior room, but made do. I would stay here again. Coffee pot in lobby, but not in room. Went to WW2 museum and loved it. Went to Harrah's just a couple of blocks away.

Room Tip: would get a room with a view if I would be staying more than one night.

We are staying at the Pelham at the moment. Our room is beautiful and very spacious. Location is great. Problem though is the desk person being incredibly unfriendly and rude. There's loud music playing from the lobby all night long. We didn't want to go through the hassle of changing rooms and just asked the desk agent to turn it down bit. He was so rude. Worst service ever. So sad because furthermore this hotel is beautiful.

We recently stayed at The Pelham for a week and could not have enjoyed our stay more.
The location is fantastic, and within walking distance to Bourbon Street, the French Quarter and the new shopping wharf. What made a stay even better was the super friendly staff who were willing to help us with all of our questions and gave great advice. Would highly recommend this hotel!

We had a cruise ship to get on the next morning so I booked this ahead of time. Room was nice and clean. Comfortable beds. We arrived quite a bit before check in. So the girl at the desk said we would have to come back at 3. But as we were about to walk out the door she caught us and said we could check-in early. Didn't try to the The Red Slipper but it must have been good the line was wrapped down the street. Heard it was good food. Very quite place. Would recommend to stay here. Just be prepared to pay to park, This was new to us. They said anywhere around that area you have to pay. Thumbs up from us otherwise.

Room Tip: You have to pay to park in downtown New Orleans

Summary: I will stay at this hotel again if ever near the French Quarter. It suited our needs at a fair price.

Pros: We chose this hotel primarily for the price point in the location we wanted. It is one street outside the French Quarter and one corner from Canal Street. At dusk the foot traffic across the corner heading toward Canal Street was non-stop while the small street the hotel fronted was very quiet and barely had foot traffic aside from the hotel guests. The building did used to be an old warehouse so the rooms are cut up oddly, the ceilings were fantastic (at least 10ft if not 12ft) with crown molding and large windows. There really was no view to speak of but the light was good in our room. The bathroom was standard but updated. The wall outlets were scarce and loose, as other reviews mention, but were sufficient for two laptops and three phone chargers. We had a couple of drawers in the chest the tv was on plus a more than adequate hanging closet. Everything in the room and the bathroom was clean and adequate. The staff were friendly and helpful. They pumped out jazz music in the hallways and the lobby from early morning until late evening and that was pretty cool. I liked the fact our vehicle was in covered parking and could be retrieved on our own or by the hotel valet. The other lots all around that area are open and seemed to be a convenient place for people to use as a restroom :( so I am glad my car did not have to be parked there. I was nervous about how we would unload and check in with a hotel right on the street and the doorway on the sidewalk. The street is one-way and is very small and rarely traveled. There is one whole side with a section for hotel guests to park and unload. The valet will take the car from this unload zone so it was a breeze and we were not rushed at all.

Cons: Online the "premium" room stated two queen sized beds with windows. When we got to our room we discovered it was two double beds. We were exhausted so we did not complain. The biggest downer for us was no coffee maker in the room. There was a Kerig in the lobby but it was out of water half the time with no way to refill it ourselves; so, we had to ask and wait for someone to become unbusy to fill it up. Not cool when you had to schlep downstairs under-caffeinated and not ready to be part of the human race yet. It was annoying but not tragic. The bathroom door did not latch/lock shut. Again, a minor annoyance. It was us and our teenager so we were cool with it just closing and not locking. We understand these things happen in an older building that has been converted. The walls were not as sound proof as modern hotels and the room directly across from us let their door slam shut every time they went in and out. It physically shook the mirror on the wall in our room. That was more of an inconsiderate guest though as you can easily tell the door was slamming! The building is older, the elevator is older and kind of musty but if you are used to being in Victorian or turn of the century homes then it is to be expected. We did not mind at all.

Room Tip: Be sure to specify you want a room with windows. Only one wall faces an open street. Check the bed s...
