“Very easily THE BEST hotel in the Quarter”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2014

I travel at least twice a year to the French Quarter every year, and have, for many years. This is the hotel I always return to for many reasons..... The service, the staff, the ambiance, the history, reasonably priced for the service and value, the Carousel bar and Criollo restaurant. This hotel delivers consistently impeccable service. I've stayed in other French Quarter hotel chains, a few boutique hotels and one B&B. This hotel, by far, is the one I usually decide to stay at. Each stay was wonderfully enjoyable. The staff is superb, from the minute the doors are opened for you. The rooms are tastefully done, very comfortable, wonderful amenities. I love the marble bathrooms. The bathrooms are a little on the small side but I've never found that intrusive for a weekend or 4 day stay. This hotel has hugely interesting history, common areas are absolutely beautiful. If I could compare this hotel to something similar in a historic flagship hotel it would easily compete with the Hotel Del Coronado (California), sans a beach. Old world value with high emphasis on superb quality. I've spent many an enjoyable afternoon at their rooftop pool. This is a great hotel for couples and families. Excellent location on Royal. A block from Bourbon. Quiet, and stately. The Carousel bar is fantastic. The best wait staff. The best collection of wines, spirits, imaginative concoctions. Their restaurant Criollo is superb for breakfast, lunch or dinner. I've attended several conferences at this hotel and they deliver a consistent overall great conference experience.

+ location is ideal as right in French Quarter. Hotel restaurant and food are up to **** standards.
- small rooms and poor service at reception desk. Expect to have to call reception at least twice to get any issue resolved.

From the time I walked in to the hotel, the staff was very polite, helpful and gracious. The food was fantastic and I enjoyed a few nights of great sleep. Also, I woke up early to use the fitness center and with it on the rooftop, watching the sunrise while running was amazing.

This hotel is regularly rated as the best hotel in New Orleans by local residents. It is historic, charming, and ideally located on Rue Royal in the French Quarter. The classic rooms are small but beautifully decorated in a very pleasant old-fashioned way. The staff was superb. . . particularly the doorman and bellmen. A maid one morning saw me walking toward the elevator and she ran ahead and "called the car for you" as she put it (pressed the elevator button). Our room looked out toward the Mississippi River and the only noise that ever disturbed us with the sound of a steamboat whistle. . . charming.

Having stayed at all the big box hotels as well as some of the high dollar hotels in New Orleans over the years, finally stayed at the Hotel Monteleone. This is what a hotel used to be like, with proper doormen at the front and a gorgeous lobby with attentive service in all respects -- all without being stuffy or ridiculously priced. Several elevator banks meant never much of a wait to access the room floors. Room was a bit small, but very well furnished, including refrigerator and Keurig coffee maker. Bathroom well-furnished with marble and granite counters and shower with bathrobes. Beautiful sheets and great towels. Easy location on Royal so quick access to rest of the French Quarter. Our room on front of hotel on 7th floor can be a bit loud until about midnight from street noise, who's in the room at that time anyway? Great lobby bar, but very crowded from late afternoon into the night. All things considered, a very good hotel at very good price in which you feel comfortable each time you walk in.

Room Tip: Definitely high floor and away from front -- to avoid street noise at night.

The hotel is truly a gem in the quarter. Perfect location, beautifully appointed and extremely friendly staff. The only complaints I have are:
1 - the doormen did not help with my bags. The front entrance of the hotel has steps to enter the lobby, despite the wheels, I struggled with the bags and was offered no help. They only held the door open when they saw me struggling, even then did not offer to help with bags.
2 - I ordered room service breakfast 1 day and was disappointed to see the size of the croissants. They were absolutely delicious!! but so small I was hungry an hour later. At the prices commanded by room service I would have expected better.

For those reasons I give it a 4 out of 5. Nevertheless, I will return to the hotel and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fabulous location in NOLA.

Hotel Monteleone from the moment the bellman opens the door for you is like walking into a paradise. The hotel is immaculate, friendly and has the best service of a hotel that we have ever stayed at (and we travel A LOT). The rooms are beautiful, luxurious and have a bit of an old-fashioned tone to them. The hotel is super clean. The Carousel Bar is beyond wonderful and so nostalgic. The rooms are rather quiet for being on busy Royal Street on weekend nights. The beds are 6-star comfortable!! Can't say enough about our stay at the Hotel Monteleone! We will return!

Room Tip: Away from Royal street would be the most quiet. Our room, however, faced Royal Street and it was fi...
