The location in the heart of the French Quarter was great. Close enough to everything, but quiet at night. The street felt reasonably safe after dark. The room furnishings and carpet were on the shabby side (French shabby chic?), but the bathroom was renovated, modern and very clean. The small pool was enough to be refreshing after a hot day of walking around. Breakfast included hot coffee, fresh bagels and muffins, yogurt, hard boiled eggs and some fresh fruit. We enjoyed eating in the courtyard and we could hear the water fountain at night. Even though our room overlooked the pool, we didn't experience much noise from other guests. And since we weren't in the infamous building #5, we were not disturbed by the "original residents"...;-)
Other guests were a mix of families and couples (straight and LGBT), American and European.
Hotel has free wi-fi, but I never had a signal in the room for more than a few minutes.
If you do make a reservation and there are more than 2 people in the room, check with the hotel about fees for additional people. On checkout day we received an unexpected hotel bill for an "additional guest". The hotel waived the charge without any fuss or unpleasantries, but they did say that the Expedia quote was for 2 people, and to check the fine print. I have gone over my confirmations and found no such reference, but be aware of this when placing your reservation.
