“Great location, excellent hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2013

I stayed here with a small group of family members in the spring and we were very pleased with the hotel. It is an older complex of buildings that have been refurbished, but that is part of the charm. It is near enough to many sights, but far enough from the chaos of Bourbon St. The continental breakfast is nothing to write home about, but there are plenty of local coffee shops nearby. The staff were very friendly and helpful. This is a great out of the way hotel that is NOT too touristy.

We stayed one night in this hotel and was very pleased. It's an old place but we'll kept and secure at night. We stayed in building 5, which is supposed to be haunted, but I'm sad to say, no ghouls spotted. It's close to Jackson square, the French market and lots of great restaurants. I've stayed many places in Nola and this place I would def visit again.

Room Tip: The rooms in bldg 5 have balconies over the street where street performers play jazz, really enjoyab...

We really enjoyed our stay here. The room was surprisingly quiet for its location . The staff were friendly and helpful in every way. Walking distance to so many great restaurants and other attractions.

This is our second visit to the Provincial, and once again, we were so happy to be here! We have stayed at posher places in the Quarter, and crummier places in the Quarter, but this really is the best value for a clean, well-serviced quiet room in our favorite part of this district.

The location of the Provincial is in the heart of this tourist area, but far enough away from the corporate sleaze of Bourbon to really help you feel like you’ve arrived in Nawlin’s. It is within a block of some of the best food we have had the good fortune to indulge in here, including: Irene’s Cuisine (it’s right next door!!) for dinner, Central Grocery’s muffuleta for lunch, Le Croissant D’or for a great coffee and crusty roll (equaled only by the patisseries I visited in Paris) for brekkie. We do like to go further afield for meals, but really have yet to improve on this triad of yummitude. Great bars are also in stumbling distance, including the iconic Lafitte’s. We also like the learned and gregarious crowd in Flanagan’s, which was more like a neighborhood pub than a collegiate playground (bar food is also excellent here).
Great shopping is also nearby, including the French Market and antique shops on Royal.

The hotel itself has a pretty bar with the best happy hour drink prices we happened to find- we have never found a $4 Stella in any bar in the world, but they have it here!

The cleanliness of the Hotel Provincial is also excellent. The lobby and hotel bar are beautiful. The courtyard is peaceful and well-maintained, and the pool is clear of debris sauce. Our bathroom was pristine. The toilet had optimal super-flush action and working fan, which is important when you are consuming raw oysters daily and sharing facilities with others. No rogue insectoid or rodential varmints were encountered. No hairs of questionable origin in our room, at all. We observed a local craftsman painting the exterior of the building; to our eyes, it was the most well-preserved and groomed building on the street.

The comfort of the Hotel is notable. The beds were so nice, I wanted to buy one for when I get home- perfectly firm and acres of pillows. We were able to supercool the room for sleep if needed. We also loved having a room in the way-back of the facility because it was blessedly quiet in a town where the kids are going to be on the street partyin’ all night. I think they do have some verandah rooms out front, as well. We felt very safe here, though the rooms don’t have safes and the doors do not have an additional deadbolt besides the keycard lock. We didn’t bring any crown jewels so we weren’t too fussed, and I am sure the commodious staff have a place to put your mega-valuables if you are freaking out …

Basically, we loved it. We didn’t come to New Orleans to spend time in the hotel room, however, so if you are looking for the Louis XIV rooms at the Palace of Versailles, you might try elsewhere. The free breakfast is not great but it is FREE, and the coffee is hot and strong. The value for the price is really unbeatable. We will be back- and it can’t be soon enough!

Room Tip: Ask the front desk for recommendations based on your needs. We are old and young people scare us. We...

We just had a 6 night stay at Hotel Provincial & our stay was as wonderful as always. The prime location provided easy access to everywhere in the French Quarter. The housekeeping staff did a great job & the bar had a nice happy hour every afternoon. We stay there every time we come to visit & we will definitely be back!

My sister and I spent 4 nights at the Hotel Provincial in early August. The location in the French Quarter was perfect and our initial impression was one of a charming place. We had heard that Building 5 was haunted. So we were eager and excited about a potential ghost encounter. Now the scary part. No elevators. We had to carry our somewhat heavy luggage up and down the stairs in 90 degree summer heat. The continental breakfast wasn't open until 8 a.m.. As we always started our daily adventures early, we missed breakfast every day. The toilet in the room required attention every day. The ball/chain mechanism kept detaching from the handle so I was constantly reaching into the tank to repair it. The air conditioning died one afternoon so we were unable to escape the extreme heat. Overall, a complete waste of our good money. And the ghosts? We didn't see any. But it's clear that the Hotel Provincial is haunted by the ghosts of unemployed maintenance people.

This hotel made the experience even better for Essence FEST. We stayed there and loved the location, the service and the pool especially. The only thing was housekeeping threw away a bag, which happened to be a souvenir, we were reimbursed for it and it was handled amicably. We were right Around the corner from bourbon street and right in front of the trolley. Great place!
