“Essence FEST (2012)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 4, 2013

This hotel made the experience even better for Essence FEST. We stayed there and loved the location, the service and the pool especially. The only thing was housekeeping threw away a bag, which happened to be a souvenir, we were reimbursed for it and it was handled amicably. We were right Around the corner from bourbon street and right in front of the trolley. Great place!

My family and I stayed here in early October for a family wedding and the Hotel Provincial proved to be an excellent choice. It well located in a quiet part of the French Quarter though the action on Bourbon St. and Frenchman St. are both easily walkable. Along with the property's location and multiple favorable reviews we chose this hotel because it had a real "New Orleans-y" look and feel. This was the first time in New Orleans for most of my family members and they were all charmed and delighted (24 of us in all ranging in age from 14 to 60+).
Sales Mgr. Margie Kaufman went out of her way to insure that we had a wonderful stay. The bartender at the Ice House (James?) was a wealth of local history and information being a native to the local area. In fact, every employee was friendly and accommodating. In the past, I have stayed in a half dozen other hotels in New Orleans but the Hotel Provincial is now the first choice.

We stayed here for one night on our trip to south Louisiana.

The bad -
Check-in was a little shaky. We arrived at 2:00 and they said that our room wouldn't be ready until 3:00. They took the keys to our car to valet park and said that when the room was ready they would bring our luggage to the room and give me a call on my cell phone. No big deal since we were right in the French Quarter and there was plenty to go and do. However, I never received a call and when we returned about 4 hours later, I checked the car, all of our luggage was still there. We had a couple of heavy bags and had to haul them up to flights of stairs to our room. The valet was busy at the time and I just wanted to get into the room.

I am 6'4" and hate it when hotels have a short shower head. This one came to the top of my chest. Very annoying, but I only had to shower once so I could put up with it.

The noise level could be a problem with this location, specifically our room. We were in room 222, which faces Chartes St. Any activity on the street could be heard very clearly in our room. Fortunately, this was a fairly quiet time in the French Quarter, so this turned out to not be too big of a deal. We did have ear plugs which helped tremendously.

The Good -

Location - this is a great location for exploring the French Quarter. Good access to most of the must hit places. I highly recommend stopping into Harry's Corner Bar just down the street. Good local hangout to have a couple of drinks.

Room - Although the room was small, it totally met expectations and although there was a risk of noise, we loved the location right on the street. We were able to open the windows and sit on the window sill and watch the activities below us. The bed was comfortable and provided a good nights sleep. The room was clean and well prepared for us.

Staff - other than the initial check-in, the staff was friendly and good to work with.

Extra - We realized when we got home that we had forgotten our iPad in the room. My wife called and talked to someone at the front desk and they said that we had to talk to the cleaning staff. We were concerned that we were getting shuffled and would get a run around, but when she called them, they said that they did in fact have it and would send it back to us. By policy, they will not call a guest, but rely on the guest to call the hotel. We had to pay for shipping, but it arrived at our house vis Fedex 3 days later. I was very pleased with the honesty.

Overall, this was a good hotel for our needs. I would recommend it and would likely stay there again.

Had a wonderful stay in New Orleans,
Staff was very nice and helpful, rooms were clean, comfortable and quiet. Location in french quarter was excellent, walking distance to Bourbon and Frenchmen streets we even walked to the Super dome. Halloween is so special in nola everyone is in costume for the whole week.

We stayed at Hotel Provincial for 3 nights. Its certainly in a great location in the French quarter far enough away from Bourbon St and Frenchmen, though the road outside seems to be a truck and school bus route in the morning. The room is plenty big enough, as is the bed, but the shower has been made for people approx 5ft. WiFi is free but decidedly patchy throughout the room. Breakfast is free but the selection is poor for a hotel costing £90/night, as is the space to eat. Outside pool is great and open till late. Would I stay again, probably not, but that's not to say there is anything wrong with the place and of course you accept it is an old building not a purpose built hotel chain, just for the price you would expect small issues not to affect you.

Stayed at this property numerous times and for the most part it is charming with a great location. It is in need of a thorough cleaning ( building 5) and some amenities would help like a room coffee pot. I must say however that the valet, Terry, is rude, arrogant and in no way an asset to the property. As the first point of customer contact, the management should rethink that assignment. We will be back next year for our annual visit.

Came for a wedding held directly across the street @ the Beauregard-Keys house. From check in to check out staff, accommodations & hospitality all outstanding. Have stayed @ other hotels & now the Provincial will be out first choice for our next visit.
