“Good hotel and location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

This hotel's location is great with very close walking distance to everything. We were able to walk from our hotel to a majority of the sights we wanted to see. The staff were very friendly, Sherlane at the front desk was very helpful and accommodating to our needs. She gave us information about what to do and see. David was also a good staff to talk to about what sights to see.
This hotel had one of the most comfortable bed and pillows. Rooms were very efficient and clean and the shower had good water pressure. We only had one minor issue where the water did not drain when we took a shower for the first time and had to stand in water. We called down to the desk and they did send someone right up to take care of it, so it was fine after that. We stayed in one of the rooms with a balcony over looking Decatur Street. I loved the balcony room but the only thing to be aware is that you share the whole balcony with others guests along those rooms. It was midnight and other guests from the rooms next to us were right in front of our window on the balcony, drunk, yelling, moving balcony furniture and sounding as if they were coming thru our walls. We called down to the front desk a couple times before security would make them move, calm down or take their party elsewhere.
Courtyard was very nice to sit down there for breakfast. They had a pretty good variety of pastries, eggs, coffee, orange etc. for breakfast. It was plenty to fill us up.
Hotel also has one entrance in the front. It would help if they would have one more entrance to the back somewhere, because if you are on Decatur st, which is right behind the hotel, you have to walk around the block to get to the front of the hotel to get in. Our cars were also very secure by having one entrance but for the traveler if could be more efficient to have more than one way to get in.
I would probably stay here again but might not get the balcony room next time.

The hotel's location is ideal close to Jackson Square, the French Market and the trolley system. It's on the quiet end of Chartres St.

Room 207 is on the upper floor of the second building and overlooks one of the pools. It's at the top of a very steep set of stairs and gets the hot afternoon sun. The room is small, has 2 double beds and a small table and chairs. The only light it gets is from the windows in the plantation doors in the front which we kept closed due to the heat. The bathroom has a fairly large area for the sink and a very small ( perhaps a former closet?) for the tub/ toilet combo. There is no safety handrail.

When I booked this, I phoned the hotel directly and enquired re the smoking policy. The lady seemed very helpful and promised us a room at the back overlooking Decatur St. so hubby just had to step out from the small balcony rather than climb stairs. We did not get this room and rather than get hubby and the porter to schlep the bags again in the heat, he decided it was fine.

The room is not suitable for anyone with mobility issues, wants to go to sleep early ( noise from the pool) or has a high sensitivity to smell.. the pool chemical smell wafted up and through the doors since there was a 2 inch gap.

Breakfast consisted of the usual bread/bagel things and I've gotten a better selection of items at a Sleep Inn. It does not open until 8 a.m. which is not helpful if you want to get an early start in the morning. The toaster only toasted one side of the bread. When hubby talked to the rather sullen attendant the reply was " Oh, I know. I think they may be ordering a new one next week"

The room was gloomy, small and disappointing.

Perfect location in the french quarter only a short walk to Jackson Square, the Cathedral, the French Market, Cafe Du Monde, The Mississippi River, Decatur Street and Bourbon Street. Nice quiet area with a very pleasant staff! The courtyard and pool were beautiful and very welcoming. No coffee in the room but a continental breakfast in the lobby until 10am. Highly recommend this hotel!!!

This is a gem. Located in a quieter section of the French Quarter but only 4 blocks from Jackson Square Maintained well - friendly and helpful staff. If we are ever in New Orleans again, we will stay at The Provincial.

2 nights here at the Provincial....Rooms were clean and comfortable with the exception of having only one chair in the room...Great location just a short jaunt to the French quarter, St Louis Cathedral and best of all, there is a French Bakery a half block away....

On our return trip to New Orleans this past weekend Hotel Provincial lived up to our previous experience. This stay we stayed in the more historical rooms around the pool and courtyard. The rooms were clean and well kept, the staff is friendly and the location is fantastic - easy walking distance to everything in the French Quarter. The courtyard is peaceful. Since our last trip they have added a breakfast - nothing fancy, but convenient. And the coffee was much better than your standard hotel coffee - must be the chicory! The room was a little musty when we first arrived - but running the air for a couple hours took care of that - it is the south and it is humid, so not unexpected. You can drop off luggage early, leave it at the end of the stay, they arrange taxi shuttles, overall a pleasent stay. Air conditioner is a little loud - but that is the norm it seems at all hotels unless you go very high end.

Room Tip: More vintage rooms are around the courtyard if you like the antique/historical feel. Ask when you r...

The hotel is in a good location, just on the edge of the French Quarter but nice and quiet. The room was also very comfortable with a top notch bath room. I thought the value was good. A couple of things though, the wi-fi was just bad. Constantly dropped out where we were in the building out the back. It literally made me pine for the old dial-up connections. When we were there the electronic key system failed. So we had to be let into our room manually. If someone was checking in they got priority. The wait to access the room meant we didn't go out much during our last day at the hotel. Also the included breakfast was just OK.

Room Tip: Out the back if you want quiet.
