“Old World Charm in New Orleans”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

Located one block from the French Market in the French Quarter The Hotel Provincial is a great spot from which to explore New Orleans. The staff was very well informed and helpful. The room had an authentic old world charm that we really enjoyed. Some might comment that the room was small or that the bathroom was outdated but everything was clean and tidy. The huge antique bed and furnishings were just what we were looking for. If you want a Holiday Inn go elsewhere. The complimentary continental breakfast was done well. Off street valet parking was provided in a secure on site location for a fee. I would readily stay here again.

Room Tip: There is no elevator so be advised.

Great little hotel in the Quarter, yet far enough from Bourbon Street to allow you to sleep at night. This was a Army hospital that has been converted to a funky hotel. It also a parking which is a huge plus in this part of New Orleans. In the morning it is a quick walk to Cafe du Monde for breakfast

We had a nice stay. The hotel allows easy walking to any area of the French Quarter. Our room overlooked the street and was certainly not sound proof but we loved it. Required Valet Parking is $24 per day but easy in and out and you can retreive items from car without any problem. Breakfast was sufficient (bagels, toast, cereal) but opened at 8:00 which could be an issue depending on when you want to start your day. Staff was more than helpful.
We would certainly stay here again.

Perfect location for everything within walking distance. Staff was friendly and helpful. The complaints I have are that the hotel does not control the noise late at night( I understand this is New Orleans but all of us are not there to get as drunk as possible before passing out!) and the hotel bar prices are outrageous....walk down the street and buy cocktails or beer elsewhere.

The hotel is beautiful, staff are fantastic and the location in perfect. This place is right in the heart of the quarter and is walking distance to all kinds of fun. We were here for our first trip without the kids and this was the perfect choice!

Location was key for our trip. We like to spend time on Frenchman Street (and we avoid Bourbon and Canal), so Hotel Provincial was perfect. It is very close to the Ursaline's stop on the Riverfront Streetcar, so for those utilizing public transportation, this is a bonus.
Upon check-in we were upgraded from a double room to a beautiful room with a king size bed (the clerk said that a couple would not have been comfortable in the double that I had booked online). Hotel Provincial is in a historic building, so do not come expecting all modern amenities. However, it has a gorgeous courtyard and is really lovely for those who prefer character over modernity.
The Pros: location, price, friendly staff, comfortable atmosphere, nice bar
The Cons (but really not that bad): no elevators in some buildings, no heat in the pools, the furniture could use a little updating (lovely antique chairs, but not that comfy; nice king sized bed, but you can tell it's about time to replace it -- OK, and this might seem nit-picky, but I hate down comforters... I was too cold without it and too hot with it on), the hotel restaurant was also way out of our price range (luckily, the Verti Marte is only two blocks away... haha!).
And for my last criticism, the hotel is featured in many French Quarter tours as a "haunted" hotel... this, of course, convinced me that a resident ghost was shaking our bed at night. In reality, we were probably feeling vibrations from dumpsters being emptied or something like that. But it was pretty easy to get a little spooked there :)
I would definitely stay there again. And I would recommend it to anyone who was looking for clean, comfortable, affordable lodgings in the French Quarter.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 321, a beautiful two-floor suite with 1 & 1/2 baths. Quiet corner of the hotel...

Stayed the weekend before Halloween. Great place and a great location. We were put in building 5 next to the elevator, but that was not an issue. Even with just a view of the central parking lot, it still was not loud and not the worst view. The room was clean and comfortable, if not overly decorated. The location is great for walking around the french quarter, and yet you are staying in a quieter part of he fq. The pool looks inviting for warmer months. Did not eat there this time, but next time want to try Stella, the restaurant right in front. For some late night muffaletta, try the Quarter Master deli, just a few blocks away on the quiet end of Bourbon.
