“Had a great time!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2009

The hotel is exactly what I expected! Great service and nice rooms. The staff was helpful. We were in town for the Essence Festival and we found it easy to get around. I had not been back since the hurricane, so I was unsure what to expect. Bourbon Street is two blocks away. We went during the day, but did not feel comfortable to go down and hang around at night. After the concert we had to walk acroos Bourbon Street to get to the hotel because taxies could not cross Burbon Street. There was a large presence of police all three nights. Almost everyone was pretty cool, did not see any problems, but there were many young indidivdulas just "hanging out". We were always were always very happy and relieved to see our safe oasis, "The Omni".

We booked a queen non-smoking room through AAA. We are from New Orleans so we truely thought our stay at the Omni would be great. We were wrong. We arrived at the hotel at 3:52PM and the front desk clerk advised our room was not ready. This was fine as it was not 4:00 yet. We figured we would have to wait twenty minutes or so; however they did not call us to advise the room was ready until 4:58PM. We finally made our way up to our room. If you would judge the Omni by its lobby you would think the entire hotel would be spectacular, however when we stepped off the elevator we were welcomed by a dark dingy hallway that had horribly fithy carpets and smelled like an ashtray. When we entered our room we were surprised to find a smoking allowed room with two twin beds. Based on previous reviewers who had this exact problem, I told my husband it would be useless to go to the front desk. I told him they would just tell us they are completely booked and cannot give us the correct room. My husband insisted that we go anyway and just as I had advised-They were booked solid and could not give us the correct room. The manager even insinuated that because we were only staying one night it really didn't matter. **Note to locals who want a small getaway, your business is not welcome at the Omni** The manager then offered my husband a free meal, however my husband told him that we did not want a free meal we just wanted the room we reserved. The manager offered to send us to another Omni. My husband asked "Why would I want to go to another Omni when I paid more to stay at this one for its location?" The manager just responded that because of some busted pipes other guests checking in later had to be moved there anyway. With no resolve we went back up to our room and realized upon second glance that the carpets are just as fithy in the room and the floor in the bathroom was obviously not mopped. It had circles of dirt across the marble as if something was dripped across the floor, never wiped up and just kept collecting dirt. Frustrated already we decided to just deal with it and salvage the little bit of the day we had left. When we came back, we put the air conditioner down to 67 degrees and went to sleep. Sleep did not last long as the room became extremely hot. Now we are from here so we are familiar with the heat and normally we sleep with our air conditioner at 75 degrees-Best guess the air conditioner was broken. Needless to say we got very little sleep so I got up pretty early- 6:30AM. Just like another reviewer said even if you like to sleep late you will not be able to because you can hear every noise in the hallway and the noise starts early. We took our showers and found that the Omni did have a small plus as there bath towels are a little bigger and fluffier than most hotels. We then picked up our bill from the floor which included the $33.00 for parking, we checked out, called for our truck and when we went down we were surprised to see our truck waiting. We left and we will not be back.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback. We truly appreciate the support of our local clientele and want to ensure that all of our guests are completely satisfied. We do our very best to accommodate all arrivals. Unfortunately, during the course of the date of your arrival, we did have an unscheduled emergency water shutdown. Although unforeseen, we can certainly understand how this could be an inconvenience. Our team should have done a better job in reflecting empathy and understanding during this situation. Although the team was attempting to provide resolution options as well as compensation, it is certainly apparent that the manner in which these were offered was not reflecting empathy. Please rest assured that we have shared your feedback with our team so that we can avoid a future occurrence. The Omni Royal Orleans is proud to be such a vital part of the history of the French Quarter. We will soon be reaching our 50th year anniversary. As you may understand, the hotel has aged a bit. Our team is committed to ensuring that the property is well maintained and clean. Unfortunately, there were a few mishaps as it relates to this experience. Although not the norm here, we take these comments very seriously and inspect all areas daily. Our property is welcoming a full room renovation beginning at the tail end of this year. This renovation will include rooms as well as public areas. We certainly hope to welcome all of our guests back to experience it.

We had a wonderful stay. The staff was extremely helpful and courteous. We had a king room w/a balcony. Very nice view and a clean room. The hotel is walking distance to anything in the French Quarter. The best hotel in the neighborhood. The rooftop pool and bar was very nice. Wonderful views on the observation deck. Antonia, the Loyalty Ambassador went above and beyond to make sure our stay was just that much better. She helped us w/an early check-in, called the room to make sure everything was fine , and even sent a note that if we needed anything she would be happy to help. Anytime you have a chance to stay at an Omni Hotel odds are you will enjoy your stay.

I stayed here during the 4th of July weekend. The location is perfect on St. Louis between Chartres and Royal. You are in walking distance of many great restaurants and bars. Bourbon St is only 2 blocks away. The Canal Shops are a 10 minute walk. The hotel itself is older so the rooms and bathrooms are not as big as they are in more recently built and comparable hotels but they are still nice. The pool is on the roof and you have a great view of the city up there. I would definitely stay here again.

Very nice and classy old hotel. It felt good to walk through the front doors each time I came and went. Not familiar with New Orleans, this was an excellent location and within walking distance to Cafe DuMonde and Jackson Square and shops as well as Bourbon Street.

I had a king room and it was nice and large. Hint - join the rewards program that Omni has. In addition to traditional turn down service, you also get beverage service in the AM which is nice. Housekeeping was great as well as room service. The pool and area around it was awesome. There are showers and a bar area. There is a small gift shop but if you want diet cokes or such, you can walk a few short blocks to Walgreens.

Highly recommend.

I stayed at the Omni Royal Orleans during a five-day business trip in late June. My wife accompanied me during part of the trip. We both appreciated the great convenience of being right in the heart of the French Quarter. Our room was nice and sufficiently large. We enjoyed the rooftop pool on those very hot days, especially the observation deck where one evening we brought in food and a bottle of wine so we could have dinner as we enjoyed the view of the city. The staff was generally very friendly, although the young lady at the front desk seemed inexperienced and fumbled a bit. Fortunately, there were more experienced staff members around to help her out. The Select Guest program is a must--free coffee, juice, and newspaper delivered to your room at the time you choose. I would definitely stay at this Omni again.
