My husband and I stayed at the Olivier House late in May, 2007. I was on business, but opted for this creole experience over the conference hotel a few blocks away. After all, we were in New Orleans and we wanted to experience New Orleans, not the chain hotel experience we've had and hated.
We stayed in the Cottage and loved the courtyard, the high ceilings in the suite and the brick flooring. The whole place is a vision, and so very New Orleans. The pool located right out the door was also a nice reprieve in the late afternoon.
I can't say enough about the staff and how wonderful they were. I fell in love with the housekeeper and so hated to leave. She was the essence of New Orleans, complete with hugs and that wonderful New Orleans drawl.
Only recommendation I would make, is stay during the week and depart on the weekend. That way you will avoid rowdy weekend party people, and loud street noises. This place is close enough to Bourbon Street to be convenient and in the center of the Quarter which makes it very walkable to just about anywhere you'd want to go.
By the way, with NO's emphasis on law enforcement presence in the Quarter, we always felt safe and used common sense caution, just as you would at home.
We recommend the Olivier House if you want the real New Orleans experience. And next trip to the Big Easy, we'll be staying at the Olivier House.
