We had a pleasant stay at the Mansion when we stayed there while in town for a wedding. No real complaints at all and the staff was helpful and friendly overall. After we left the hotel and we were in the airport, we realized we had left a very cherished 17 year old teddy bear in the room. We called the hotel and were assured by 2 people that they checked the room and the bear was not there (before the cleaning service went through).

Later in the week I was told the bear was seen and they would find out where it was that day. After many calls were not returned, we gave it one more chance (a few days later), and found out that the bear was thrown away by the cleaning staff. The blame was put on a lack of communication with the cleaning staff... perhaps they should institute a lost and found... or simply tell the cleaners not to throw out any personal effects.

Though it was foolish not to double check the room for our belongings before leaving, it seems unjust not to be given the proper customer service as soon as our bags were out the door.

My husband and I stayed here to celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary. Half of the things in the room did not work (ie. whirlpool tub, lights in shower). The breakfast was not as indicated on the website. We were served storebought muffins and coffee out of a mug with no sugar or cream offered. The staff was rude upon arrival. The room was not cleaned for us prior to arrival. Parking was stated to be available, but no one told us of the fees for parking beforehand. It was an aweful experience and a poor excuse for a bed and breakfast. My husband and I are from New Orleans and we would not recommend this to anyone, including locals. I wish we would have read the reviews beforehand, because most of the reviews voice the same complaints.

“Overcharged our credit card and lied about refund.”

My wife and I stayed here for a weekend in June of 2000. We added an additional night on Monday, and were promised a reduced rate for the added night. Upon checkout, they tried to charge us $12.00 a day for parking, even though we parked on the street, down the street from the Mansion. After leaving, we noticed they had overcharged our credit card, charging full price for the extra night. We called and spoke to the manager, as well as several other people at the Mansion who gave us the run around, then stating they had never offered a reduced rate, then agreeing to refund our credit card which they never did. We disputed the claim with VISA, who eventually went ahead and paid Melrose, as we really had no proof about the discounted rate. I will never stay at this place again! Don't believe anything they tell you! Make backup plans.

“Gorgeous Property - Advertised Perks - Weak”

Melrose Mansion

I rate this property above average because it is a stunning place with gorgeous architecture in a cool neighborhood close to the quarter.

The "gourmet" breakfast was a couple choices of very cold and dry pasteries. We had to ask for butter and jam.

There was no "white glove service nor evening hors d-ouevres" that we saw or were told about and they had lost their wine distributor and didn't have any wine.

The staff (one manager and a front desk clerk) were nice, but seemed quite lackadaisical. Our toilet made noises all night, and the manager seemed quite unconcerned that it was broken and did not apologize to us.

My husband and I along with another couple, were the only guests in the hotel. Not that we ever want something for nothing, but it stuck us that it would have been a perfect time, mid-week and slow, to upgrade us. Why not create goodwill?

“How Rude”

Melrose Mansion

My husband and I are travelling to New Orleans this Thursday. I called the hotel today to confirm my reservation which I made in March. I spoke to a receptionist/reservations agent called Toni. I can honestly say, in all my years of travelling I have never come across anyone as rude or unhelpful. Firstly, she could not find my reservation (which I have paid for in full in advance), she informed me she could not find such a reservation and at that, tried to cut me off without any apology or explaination or reassurance she would either fit us in or refund our money. I asked her to check to see if the booking was made under my first name - she confirmed it was and with that hung up the phone on me. I was about to ask her to confirm payment had been received and ask her directions from the airport but I did not get the chance. I must say this has given me an extremely bad impression of the hotel even before I have arrived. It has really put a damper on my holiday!!

I have read this review and do apologize if my staff was rude in anyway. I was informed of the situation and took it as a clear misunderstanding. We do value your business and would like for this not to damper your experience. You are receiving a great deal on a beautiful room and am sure that your outlook on our property after your stay will differ. I ask that this review in no way change anyones view on our property as this was an opinion before arrival at our property and will not take place again.
