“My wife's says best room she's ever stayed in.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2012

We live in an old victorian in Melrose, MA, so we were automatically drawn to the Melrose Mansion. We loved the look and cleanliness, the stained glass, and our room was terrific. Huge ~16ft ceiling, everything white contrasted with the dark wood floors and the marble in the bathroom and kitchenette. A great value for $130 (including taxes).
Parking was free and easy on the street on the other side of N. Rampart.

“Fell short on Services”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2012

My wife and I were first impressed at first by the appearance of the B&B, the pictures represent the hotel accurately. Unfortunately after that the experience was a let down. the first thing we noticed is the musty smell of the hotel. Then we found our room did not have a hair dryer and after speaking to the front desk it took a day and half to get one to us. The front desk personal shared with us the pool was not serviced daily for chemical balance, one of the reasons we chose this hotel. The bathrooms are beautiful but there are definite concerns with safety when getting out of the very deep shower/tub. The breakfast selection is a joke. It would have been better if they had restocked the room each night with more water bottles and pralines and for go the breakfast to get the extra money they charge. Beautiful building that is well renovated but they should have a service consultant come in to coach the staff and owner to move them to the next level for the prices they charge you.

The French Quarter Hotel Group prides itself on customer service so when we hear someone had an unpleasant stay we are truly sorry and hope you accept our apologies. The hotels are staffed 24/7 and work extremely hard to maintain both the common areas as well as the guest rooms; we do use special cleaning products to clean things for example, the hard wood floors or the chandeliers. Unfortunately, we cannot tell by your review if this was the case, but again we apologize for the smell. We do supply hair dryers in all guest suites; again we don’t know the specifics as to why it took so long, I apologize for the delay in getting a hair dryer to you when you should have had one in your suite already.
At one time there was a leak in a pipe for the pool and we had to manually use regular water to refill it and that does cause cloudiness, but at no time do we not service the pool and if you would like to see our paper work on that we would be more than happy to show you. We are a hotel and there are many people who stay with us simply for the usage of the pool, as a company we could not have the pool serviced and maintained for our guest.
We do have Jacuzzi tubs and they are tall because they are designed to try to catch some of the splash the jets may cause so that guest do not slip and hurt themselves. We do offer a lite continental breakfast, it includes pastries, muffins and coffee, we are currently in the process of working with a local chef to elaborate on the selection.
We do thank you for your suggestions and comments and we will continue to strive to excellence and maintain working hard. We hope that you do give us another chance, I personally would be more than happy to speak with you further if you like. Thank you again.

“Our first time in New Orleans”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2012

This was me and my boyfriend's first time in New Orleans, so we really didn't know what we were doing. We stayed at Melrose Mansion in the french quarter, and as soon as we checked in the lady Kiesha at the front desk took out a map and drew us a route of good places to eat, things to do, and things to see. She answered all of our questions and seemed happy to do it. Our room was pretty, clean, and comfortable. The whole hotel was beautiful, I loved the decor. The location was great, you can walk to petty much all the tourist areas, and it's right next door to this great place called Buffa's (try the brat po'boy). The service there was great. The people around town are nice, but due to places like Bourbon street, this is not a vacation spot for families with kids. The garden district is beautiful, check out Audobon Park. Go to Harrah's casino. You can walk there from the hotel or catch the streetcar (get a day pass it's a better value). The pedicabs are a little pricey. Try the Gumbo Shop (the gumbo is good but the red beans and rice is better), Pierre Maspero's has a good shrimp Po'Boy but Verti Marte's is better and they deliver. Try the brat Po'boy or the Red Beans and rice at Buffa's, Oceanas has a great gator Po'boy and Jambalaya pasta. Try the Nachez Riverboat lunch cruise. It's super relaxing and the lunch was great. Also try Harrah's casino, the IMAX ,check out Audobon Park, freshmarket, and do some shopping at the open-air market. Bourbon street is good for the grown folks, we had fun there.

We are so glad you let us be a part of your first visit to NOLA and that it was memorable! Keisha is truly an asset to the team, you probably made her day and we are sure she was so excited to help ya’ll, she like the rest of our staff is very knowledgeable of the area and if we do not know where something is we will try our best to find it. It sounds like ya’ll had a great time, and you have described New Orleans perfectly, better than we could have! Please come back anytime, thank you again for your awesome review.

“The good and the bad...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2012

My husband and I have traveled the globe, staying in a lot of hotels. We wanted something different for this trip--not your average tourist hotel. A travel company offered us a package deal to stay at the MM-- a bed and breakfast located just outside of the French Quarter.
We caught a bus at the airport that dropped us off right at our BB. There was no need for a rental car here in NOLA and no parking at the hotel. However, if you are lucky, you might find a place to park on the street. If not, you are going to park a good clip away. I loved the location of the hotel and it's right across the street from a local dive Port of Call who seriously have the best hamburgers ever, if you can withstand the wait time to get in. We walked everywhere from this hotel. It is in a truly great location. The hotel itself is very clean. The bathrooms (at least ours) was small but done in marble. The bed was great, extra pillows too. The only complaints I had about the hotel itself were the following: I wasn't given a choice of rooms, upstairs or down. I would have much rather been upstairs as people walked by all night. Perhaps we didn't pay enough to have a choice of rooms. However, ours was still nice. There is a light that shines through the stained glass window above the door that you have to get used to. The music in the hotel is good but loud and it plays very late. It was after midnight and it was still playing, making it hard to sleep if you want to tuck in early. The wine and cheese... well, although nice, the white wine was gone most of the time (as they only put out two bottles) and the cheese tray was Kraft (but still good). The breakfast in the mornings was made up of Community Coffee (of course) and a couple of trays of cold muffins or danishes. It would be nice if there was a juice for those that don't drink coffee. I guess I can't complain as these were free. I would have also liked to have seen more classic art in the hotel. There was this strange blend of modern and old. Our room didn't have an iron and although we asked, it did take three days to finally get one. The pool was beautiful and very clean. The first night we had a small bottle of water and a praline in our room. This was a nice touch. I would have loved to have seen that daily not just the first day. The sheets are not changed during your stay. The towels are if you put them on the floor. As a woman, I would recommend you bring your own shampoo and conditioner (yes, I know these are trivial). You also have to ask for the Wi-Fi password (it works well but cuts off sometimes while you are in the middle of something). Overall, good stay. Would stay here again making note of the things I mentioned above.

“Amazing Staff, Amazing Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2012

Melrose Mansion is a wonderful place to stay. From the point of initial contact, the extremely accommodating Melanie, (Front desk clerk) was beyond helpful. She described the various rooms and features and helped me decide which room would be best for me. She insured that I was granted a Jazcuzzi Suite (AMAZING) and she made sure our stay was comfortable and she also helped with eateries in the area and even included a map in which she marked each location.

The pool is so inviting and best of all unlike over priced hotels, it doesnt have a 10pm closing time. The water was warm and the area just screams relaxation.

We enjoyed our stay and have already recommended the place to others! We WILL definitely stay many more times to come!!!
