Your first impression when walking into Le Pavilion is WOW. The lobby is truly spectacular and the check in staff are professional and very helpful. We were quickly shown to our junior suite (large studio room), and settled in. The room was smallish but being an older hotel we were expecting this. The room was clean, as was the bathroom. However the bed was not great and the bed spread was very old and needed updating.
The major problem with this room type is that it is directly behind the elevator and unfortunately the room is not insulated well and the noise was very loud. Most noise seemed to be coming in through the room's door which had a large gap at the
bottom and around the edges. If proper seals were installed I'm sure the noise would be reduced. We were staying 4 nights so we asked if we could move to another room. Unfortunately all their junior suites are located behind the elevator
shaft (the trade off for the slightly larger room). We also had difficulty with the hot water in the bathroom, it was either cold or scalding hot. As we required the extra room space due to work requirements, we
decided to give the room a go for another night, rather than accepting a discounted upgrade to a full suite. We found putting pillows against
the bottom of the door helped to
reduce the noise! However the next morning there was no hot water. So we accepted the discounted upgrade for the remaining two nights of our stay. I must say the staff member I spoke to about our room issues was very understanding and professional and arranged for our luggage to be
moved during the day whilst we were on a tour.
This standard of service is what we loved about our stay at Le Pavillion. All staff we dealt with during our stay were first class and made you
feel like you were very welcome and at home. The restaurant and bar areas were also brilliant. The
Sunday jazz brunch is an absolute must, with high quality food and fabulous music. We were similarly impressed with dinner at the restaurant, with our server being well informed and very attentive. I
cannot stress how wonderful the staff are at Le Pavillion and the restaurant, bar and lobby areas are first class luxury - you pay the extra to stay at a luxury hotel and these areas all deliver to the
However the rooms need improvement. Even the last two nights of our stay in the full suite were not without problems. The drapes on the bedroom window were broken and would not close, a light switch wouldn't work and the bathroom had no room for your toiletry bag even though it was a bigger room. Ultimately, the maintenance of the guest rooms is not good enough for a hotel that markets itself as a luxurious place
The rest of the hotel is at a luxury standard, which is what was so
frustrating about our stay. We loved the charm of the building, the spectacular common areas, the restaurant and the staff, but the rooms do not meet the same standard. I would recommend Le Pavillion to friends for a short 1 night stay so they could experience the restaurant and wonderful attentive staff, but until the rooms are improved I would not recommend a longer stay.
