“Stop looking!! This is the place you want to stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2009

I have stayed in high-end hotels all over the world and this is now officially my favorite place. It is very ultra-modern and the rooms are absolutely wonderful. Besides the fantastic staff, the amenities are amazing. Can I just say AVEDA products! The hotel provides its guests with Aveda everything. It just can't be beat.

From the free internet in the lobby, to the amazing bar and restaurant. This place is amazing. The walk to the French Quarter is an easy one and the hotel staff is full of recommendations of places to eat. But you would be making a big mistake if you don't eat at the restaurant attached to the hotel. The selection of Spanish/French tapas is amazing and they cure their own meat.

Finally, if you are not cool, this place will make you cool just by staying there. Oh and did I mention it is the perfect place for a romantic getaway? Don't look anywhere else.

Friendly staff, including the bartenders in the way cool bar in the lobby. Small room with all the space we needed and fine amenities. Great location.

This was our 7th consecutive stay at the International House in New Orleans. Before the IH, we tried other hotels and B&Bs in NOLA and found them all lacking.

To begin with, the location is very sweet, since it is technically in the Commercial District, but only a block from the French Quarter. It is within easy walking distance to Harrah's Casino, the Convention Center, Jackson Brewery (now a mall), Decatur Street (House of Blues, Nip's, French Market, traditional tourist restaurants), Royal and Bourbon Streets, and several drug stores. A short cab ride or vigorous walk across the French Quarter will get you across Esplanade Avenue to Frenchmen's Street, which is where you will find d.b.a. club and a string of NOLA residents' favorite hangouts for music and evening fun.

Also, IH is about 2 blocks from the end of the St. Charles Ave streetcar line, which will take you to the Garden District (the first exclusively American residences in the city and the place where Anne Rice was inspired to write her Vampire tales) and Tulane University/Audubon Zoo and Park (about 30 minutes away by Streetcar).

There are 2 Taxi stands within a block, just in case the doorman (usually, Jerry) can't immediately hail you a cab.

The rooms are best described as "very comfortable, but unusual." IH is a "Boutique" hotel, so there are a lot of designer touches like featherbeds and low lights (which take a little getting used to), a Clock/Radio with a dock for your iPod, extremely foreshortened mosaic art in the elevators (which is fun to figure out), and a big-screen Mac computer in the lobby for guest use.

The lobby bar is called Loa, and it is one of the best in the city -- You have to experience it to understand why. The tapas-style restaurant, Rambla, was just reopened, and now offers room service to the entire hotel.

If you don't need windows and want to save a chunk of change, you can request a "rock-star room," which may help you to sleep in a little later and to stay an extra day.

I did my homework before booking my stay at the International House. Certain travel guides call it one of the best hotels in the city of New Orleans. After staying here for 2 nights, I confess I do not understand all the hype. While the hotel has several positives, its shortcomings mask its reputation as a top boutique hotels.

Pros: very impressive public space in the lobby. Feels like a W Hotel with the coolness factor. The bar is patronized by an attractive crowd. Location is good, 1 block from Canal St, near other Central Business District hotels. Parking garage 1 block away is cheaper than valet. Very nice bathroom with Aveda products. Staff seemed friendly enough. Free wi-fi. Small fridge in the room. CD player with local jazz CDs is a nice touch.

Cons: rooms were incredibly small and incredibly dark. Truly the bathroom is the darkest I have ever seen in a hotel. I don't mind a small standard room, but no desk at all? Not even a little one? No flat screen TV. Television was in an armoire whose doors would not stay open unless you propped a bag or pillow up against them. Scuff marks on the walls and wallpaper. Bed was adequate, you'll find much better at top chain hotels. No views from the rooms. No pool. Tiny elevators.

Incomplete: restaurant was closed when I stayed there. Didn't try the fitness center or valet parking.

Summary: I probably wouldn't go back as an overnight guest, but I would go to the bar for a drink. You're likely to have as good or better an experience, for less $, across the street at the Omni.

The above says it all.Far enough away from the hustle and bustle of Bourbon st. but close enough to walk to many attractions including Bourbon st,casino, jackson square and steamboat rides on the Mississippi.Try the Natchez paddle wheel steamboat cruise.A very good value as is the hotel with very friendly staff and quality amenities throughout the establishment. The extra large showers are a plus.Enjoy - I give this place four to five stars.

We are frequent visitors to New Orleans and always appreciate the size, location, friendliness and amenities of this outstanding euro-style hotel within two blocks of the Quarter; rooms are ample and tastefully furnished with high-quality linens and comfortable bath facilities; both the lobby bar and adjoining Rambla restaurant are first-rate and carefully managed; easy parking either at the hotel's own garage or a block away at the Whitney Bank parking garage; this hotel provides a lot of options (including upgrades) at reasonable rates. Their staff was very nice and prompt when checking in. The rooms were big and beautiful. I loved the decor and feeling of the lobby and bar area. They gave us a spacious room for us to have our meeting. I will be back!!!
