“Apprehensive about stay!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2014

Prepaid and booked this room for a one night stay before a cruise. After reading the reviews, I was very nervous about what we would find upon check in. Overall it wasn't too bad. Pros: front desk staff was very helpful; great location; bathroom was clean with nice shower; beds were comfortable; elevator worked the entire time. Cons: dirty carpet in hallway, room was small.

Had to change rooms twice upon check-in. First room had some big metal pipes in it from floor to ceiling so we called desk asking to be changed as this could be dangerous if one was to get up in the middle of the night. The desk agreed to get us another room, but when we tried to get out of the room, we were literally locked in for about five minutes. Finally got out and took horrible elevator down to get keys to room two. The keys would not work in the locks for us to get in and the door handle was dangling off of the door. Turned right around to ride horrible elevator down again and got keys to room three. Walked into that room (keys worked third room)to find that it stank, the curtains were water stained as if had been flooded and never cleaned, two of the lamps had parts hanging off of them so could not work, and bathroom had clearly not been cleaned. Should have known the third room would be a winner when saw room number was drawn on the wall in pen where the room number plaque used to be. Avoid at all costs! Not sure how Expedia gives this dump a three-star rating........

Room Tip: After being in three losers, not sure there is a good room in this hotel.

We booked our Anniversary weekend in this hotel and Pre-paid...It looked like it had alot of old world charm...OLD does not begin to describe it...The elevator works only if the front desk reset it everytime, then it shakes so bad you think it will fall threw the floor...On to the room..the carpet is horribly dirty, and stinks,NO phone,no hair dryer, no coffee pot, bathroom toilet did not flush(maintenance man told us to turn the valve under toilet off and on a couple of times to make it work) what the %$#@.......sink stopped up with the smallest usage of water, mold in the bath tub,no stopper for tub, shower head was so black I was afraid for water to run thru it..windows were so dirty you could not see out of them, mold and dirt in the window sill, don't shake the curtains unless you want to start a dust storm..holes in the sheets...don't expect to sleep..Honking horns, cars racing, people screaming, you hear it all.....Horrible....Horrible

It has its quirks but it's very New Orleans and its location is awesome. For the price it's well worth it. The hotel is old and does show wear but the rooms are clean, the staff is helpful and if occasionally you have to use the stairs well it will help you work off some of that great New Orleans food.

Oh, this hotel. I did not want to stay here. The TripAdvisor reviews... They deter you for a reason. And then I did stay here. And it was miserable. The lights didn't work. The walls were so thin I could hear people having conversations on the street. We stayed on the second floor. The honking, my god, the honking! The beds. The beds were so terribly uncomfortable. I didn't sleep. It was miserable. I've never seen a tv that old in a hotel. Not even in the 1990's. The good things: the drapes worked great. The bathroom wasn't so bad. The towel did have a stain on it. The cleaning lady was very very nice. She did the best job cleaning she good. The front desk women were... Ugh. Just awful. If you are forced to stay here, stay here. If you have other options, for the love of all that is holy, stay elsewhere!!!!

I stayed here for 4 nights and I would give it a solid 3 stars. It was relatively inexpensive, and the location was convenient to walk everywhere. The hotel and rooms are dated (built in 1845) but if you spend plan on spending a lot of time in your room in Nola, you are in the wrong city. We had a very comfortable king sized bed and the room was two rooms and very large. Negatives: no hair dryer, a little noisy (street), spot on carpet. Positives: inexpensive, great location, wifi, nice staff.

I was concerned about staying in this hotel after reading several negative reviews but I was pleasantly surprised with my recent visit! Rooms in the French Quarter can be very hard to find, particularly on weekends with a short lead time. I booked online about 24 hours before checking in and found the reception staff friendly and efficient. Using a promo code my room cost including taxes and all fees totaled $130, which was about half the cost of the few competing available rooms in the Quarter. I stayed in Room 303, directly across from the elevator. The "suite" contained two rooms along with one bathroom. The hall door opened into a room with two chairs and a "day bed" which can serve as a sofa by day and a bed at night for 1 adult or 2 children. The first room has a door opening into the bathroom and a second door opening to a bedroom with a "king" bed and two windows overlooking Decatur St.. The 2 rooms along with the bathroom were reasonably clean. The bed linens and towels were fresh and clean. Minor issues; no phone in this room and one lamp not working. I also noticed there was not phone in the elevator for emergency calls. SUMMARY: This very old building enjoys a great location and provided a clean and functional room at an excellent price.

Room Tip: Room 303 has two bedrooms and one bath. One bedroom has two windows overlooking Decatur St. Expect s...
