“Southern Hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

My husband and I spent two nights in the Pond Cottage in early November. It was our first trip to New Orleans and Maison de Macarty could not have been more perfect. From the front porch to the back gardens and pool, everything was beautifully appointed, welcoming, comfortable, and relaxing. We felt like we were staying with friends and we enjoyed walking to neighborhood restaurants and bars. It was also a perfect location from which to explore the rest of the city (we had a rental car.) 5-star breakfast.

My husband and I stayed at Maison de Macarty two nights, and wished we could have booked more. The neighborhood is sweet, a short walk from the Quarter, and residential, though there are restaurants and things to see there as well. (Beth's Used Bookstore, for example) Try Suis Generis (sp) for late-night food on your way in. Try the Shrimp Ceviche if it's on the menu that day. But I digress. Kurt has created a lovely ambiance, Victorian but comfortable. We stayed in Room 4 -- the bed was deluxe, had a private entrance through the courtyard and upstairs (I think all rooms may be UP stairs), overlooking banana palms and an outdoor swimming pool. The chef, Curtis, regaled us with amazing baked goods as well as delicious egg dishes. We were invited to enter through the kitchen and help ourselves, as long as we stayed out of Curtis's way. His peach/cherry upside down cake is to die for, and the french crepe (filled with boursin?) and spinach, mmmmm. So, we had a wonderful experience. The one and only caveat, which they warn about on the website, is that the walls are thin. So if you're a light sleeper, bring earplugs. The neighborhood was quiet, at least until the kids went to recess at school across the street, (about 8:30 -- you don't want to sleep too late in New Orleans anyway!) but the man next door snored. Thank you Kurt & Dr. Warren for a great stay!

When my brother planned his New Orleans wedding, he booked all the rooms at Maison de Macarty for family and members of the wedding party. My family and I were delighted with every little thing about the Maison. Kurt was waiting on the porch when we arrived, welcomed us warmly, and carried our bags to our rooms. Then he took us on a tour around the beautiful house and taught us everything we needed to know for our stay in New Orleans. The breakfast at some "Bed & Breakfasts" is often coffee and some cold muffins, out on tables between 6-9 am. At Maison de Macarty, get ready for a real breakfast, freshly prepared and served at your linen-covered table at the civilized hour of 9-ish! Our breakfasts included fresh fruit, a fresh pastry, and a cooked dish such as eggs with andouille, with Orange juice and good coffee included too. Chef Curtis was very helpful in creating a delicious menu for a post-wedding brunch we wanted to host for the bride and groom.
The elegant dining room contains an "honor bar" where guests can serve themselves drinks, and put money in the basket to provide for the next poor thirsty traveler who wanders in. The living room is available for guests 24 hours a day! No tiptoeing in at 2 am, then having to wake up a cranky old meanie and beg him to let you in.
Our rooms were perfect---charming and old-fashioned enough to make you feel you're on a trip to yesteryear, but modern enough to make a 21st century girl feel comfy and pampered. Clean, clean, clean! Plumbing works well. Heating, air conditioning, ceiling fans, tvs, ice buckets, ice machine, and free wifi. There's a beautiful pool and patio surrounded by lush ferns and banana trees. I almost forgot to mention the big front porch, a lovely place to relax on a settee and read the paper.
Maison de Macarty's owners have done a wonderful job restoring this lovely old home. Kurt and staff are truly warm and welcoming, and will do everything that can to help make your stay comfortable. I truly hope I will have the good fortune to stay at Maison de Macarty again someday.

The Maison de Macarty is a dream! Stay here when you’re in NO; you won’t regret it. Five older women (50 – 60 something) found the neighborhood quiet & interesting and we will spend more time here in the Bywater (as opposed to the French Quarter) next time. Kurt, Curtiss (the cook) & Warren are charming, warm, and super knowledgeable about NO. They made us feel like we were staying with good friends. The food is to die for, and finding fresh baked cookies when we arrived home each evening, and sipping brandy on the upstairs balcony at midnight wasn’t too shabby either. Definitely, we’ll stay here next time.

Room Tip: We had rooms 1, 3 and 4. All were excellent. . .spacious & quiet. (rooms 3 and 4 connect if yo...

Ah yes... The Balcony of Room 1. One of the best spots in the house. Glad you enjoyed it with your friends! Looking forward to your next visit. Thanks for the review.

It was an "old girl-friends' trip" that took us to the Maison.....lucky us. It is, indeed, lovely and relaxing.......wonderful, engaging hosts. Delicious breakfasts at the beginning of a busy day and a filled cookie jar at the end. Kurt knows New Orleans well and can offer lots of recommendations. Walking through the Bywater added so much to our NOLA experience and we might not have explored the great music on Frenchman Street as much if we had been down in the Quarter. Maison has become our GO TO place in NOLA.

While traveling can be fun, one of my least favorite elements of it is experiencing a stay in a stuffy, sterile & unwelcoming hotel. The staff at the Masion, and the ambiance they've created had our party feeling like we just at home! Words can't do justice to my adoration, and I can't wait to return!

We stayed at Maison the last week of October, the weather was perfect the B &B was perfect. Kurt, Kurtis, Warren,Matt and Carolyn are so nice. Three of our party are Vegan and they made us Vegan breakfast and it was always so delicious. The rooms were so clean, comfortable and quaint. You can relax inside the living room, on the porch, by the pool or in the courtyard. I would stay here again and again. They were so accommodating and made us feel like it was our home to enjoy. It was like visiting friends and family. They are dog friendly! We were so happy to be able to love on three dogs while we were there. We were there for a few days alone and a few days for a big wedding and they were great about everything. I was surprised how many people, tables and chairs could fit on the grounds outside we had 120 guests and could have had room for more. The setting was perfect for an outdoor wedding reception. And again , I can't tell you enough how great the owners and staff were. They stayed so calm through everything and always had kind words to say to everyone. All the guests talked about what a beautiful place it was and how much fun they had there. We can't thank them enough for their hospitality. They made everyone feel so welcome.

Room Tip: Room one has king size bed with comfy chair it's huge and has its own balcony. Room 6 has a gre...
