“Back Again!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2007

We stayed here in December, and again, it is just so comfortable.

I noticed that in my last review I stated that the rooms had very "NO decor "-- and then in rereading it, realized that not everyone will understand that "NO" means New Orleans, and not "none".
The rooms are large, comfortable and each one has a different New Orleans theme.

Another update: there was a small shower in one of the bathrooms that has now been replaced with a fabulous European style shower.

Ray and Kim will give you excellent dining recommendations - and will steer you away from some that you may have read are wonderful -- but in actuality are not. One of our best meals on this trip was in a little upstairs restaurant on Frenchman Street. Had we not been sent there, no way would we have even considered opening the door.

Ray and Kim run a very comfortable and homey B&B. We felt as though we were visting close relatives, with the freedom of accessing the guest' fridge in the middle of the night. The rooms are large and comfy with very NO decor. W/D available.
It is such a relief, after staying in hotels, to have no fear of leaving your door unlocked all day (or night) with your valuables spread around the room, knowing everything will be safe.
Although there is no hot breakfast, the quality and quantity of the fruit, pastry, cereals etc. provided is excellent.
Ray and Kim are wonderful at providing information and guidance to restaurants and other fun events.
The B&B is a short easy walk through the park to Frenchman Street with a number of excellent restaurants and music/drinking establishments.
We look forward to many more visits as we fly in and out of NOLA on our way to visit family in La.

We initially chose La Dauphine because of its artsy bent and its location, just a few blocks east of the famous Jazz Club, Snug Harbor. When I left a phone message requesting a reservation, Ray (one of the owners) promptly called me back, and we right away became engaged in a conversation on various topics. Upon arrival, my son and I were treated to a personal walking tour of the area, a real treat. We also really liked the fact that we could opt to socialize or just be left to ourselves. The rooms each have a tale to tell about where the furnishings came from, who slept in which bed, and what movie they might have been in. The street is quiet and most charming. The many items on counters in the hallway are not just to look at; they're for guests' use. The building is gaily but tastefully painted, and it felt like home to come back to each evening. We missed our hosts when we left. A Great place

It feels like going to visit a good friend; New Orleans, Frenchman Street and La Dauphine. My main motive is to attend Jazz Fest. I've been doing this for about 12 years, and stayed in the French Quarter with a friend. When my friend got married and moved away 5 years ago...I was LOST! Where was I going to stay that wouldn't make me feel like a tourist!??
I found La Dauphine, and have been going back ever since. After a long day at the fest...it's great to get back to La Dauphine, freshen up, and then head to Frenchman Street. You can find all kinds of great music there at the Spotted Cat, DBA..and I always plan ahead and get tickets for a special night at Snug Harbor. You can eat well and casual with in walking distance in a number of places. Coops is good for late night, and so many other options just walking into the Quarter. I feel safe when walking with my friends, and Ray is full of good restaurant tips and suggestions.
This trip we took a 2 hour drive around the flooded areas of New Orleans. You'd never know the extent of the damage and devistation if you just came from the Airport to La Dauphine and stayed in the Quarter area. It's really sad, and I don't see how it will ever be the same.
La Dauphine is the same as before Katrina. So, get your reservation in and go hear some great music and eat some amazing food!!

Better late than never?

My teenage daughter and i visited New Orleans for spring break 2004 and were lucky enough to stay in a "just right" room at the La Dauphine. i have a couple of "favorite" places in NOLA to stay, but wanted to try something new and in the Marigny. What a great choice! La Dauphine is funky and authentic and our hosts were perfect. A light breakfast and chat over the local news in the morning, videos when our feet were sore, wireless internet, everything we needed, but thankfully *not* in a Motel 6-type way! We are both photographers and wandered at all times, day and night, without fear. One of my favorite visits ever. How i long to return...

We have stayed twice at La Dauphine, most recently for our daughter's graduation from Tulane in May 2006. If you expect white glove service and lavish breakfasts from a B&B, this is definitely not your kind of place, but if you want a true taste of New Orleans, then try La Dauphine. This big, old shotgun house is in the Faubourg Marigny, a diverse, delicious neighborhood adjacent to the French Quarter. Innkeepers Ray and Kim are relaxed and friendly, the rooms are large, and the courtyard garden is a delight. Prices are very reasonable. As other reviewers have mentioned, breakfast is self-serve, as is daily maid service (make up your own bed), and some of the bathroom arrangements are a little unconventional, but all of this adds to the authentictiy and funkiness of the experience. The long side hall is filled with books about New Orleans and other eclectic subjects, and the innkeepers are more than happy to assist you in finding good nearby restaurants, shops, or entertainment. They also maintain a large video library. Staying at La Dauphine is like having a second home in one of the most colorful neighborhoods in the world.

We stayed at La Dauphine for Mardi Gras '06. It's a lovely little b&b in Fauborg Marigny, and the owners, Ray and Kim, are terrific hosts. We had the Alec Baldwin Suite, a lovely room, but perhaps better for a couple than for just two pals. Got a little cramped in there for us two gals! The bathroom (private but down the hall -- robes are provided) was fairly spacious and packed with reading material! :) A quibble on the bath was the shower... the doors were wobbly and difficult to close, the thing was tiny (um, we're big gals, to boot!), and, well, like many shower doors, the tracks were difficult to keep clean. Everything else was spotless, however. The resident dogs are wonderful. And the courtyard is a colorful delight! It's not far from the Quarter (a quick stroll down Frenchmen) -- definitely a bonus!
