“Chillax!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

After a hectic Mardi Gras weekend, this was a perfect place to unwind before continuing our vacation. The B&B is lovely, welcoming, quiet and relaxing. It is located conveniently for the ferry at the top of Canal Street and a short walk from the terminal at Algiers Port (free if a foot passenger). Look for the English pub on the corner and walk down a short block.

A welcoming pot of English tea upon arrival and then a tour of the house and garden. We had the room off the kitchen which has an en suite bathroom. That evening we went up to the English pub whereupon Kevin, who says he does not play darts, thrashed us! We will be back for a re-match!!

The continental breakfast was so filling and generous. Kevin and Wendy are wonderful hosts and very helpful and knowledgable about the local area.

Thank you Kevin, Wendy and Boudin The Wonder Dog who made our stay so welcoming and we will definitely be back and we highly recommend their B&B.

Room Tip: We stayed in the double room near the kitchen and have to say that we did not hear Kevin moving arou...

My husband and I just spent 5 nights at the HRS B & B. This was our first visit to NO and had a very good experience. Our bedroom (off of the kitchen & quiet until 7 a.m. as Kevin said), bathroom, and the house were very cozy. The 8 a.m. continental breakfast was plenty to hold us until lunch. Eating with the others at the table was very enjoyable with good conversations. We enjoyed the swings on the small front and back porches. We felt safe in this area of Algiers. It is a typical patchwork neighborhood--nice and not-so-nice homes. Just be aware of the very uneven sidewalks in the area. The short walk to the ferry and the ferry ride were never a problem. It was very convenient to park our car and not have to drive in the city. Kevin and Wendy are friendy and helpful. Kevin was very mindful to give us our space. He only joined us if we invited him. Wendy was traveling for work during the week. After 10-12 hour days in the city, it was nice to chill in front of the tv in the common gathering room. We always had the tv area to ouselves as the younger adults went out on the town at night. Even though there were others in the house, it was very quiet. We had great weather and were outside most of the time. If you require large, indoor spaces, this is not the place for you. Bring your own umbrellas.

Room Tip: I didn't see the other 2 rooms.

Many thanks for your great review, but, we wish you had reported anything you were not 100% happy with while you were here. The only way for us to improve is from guests' constructive feedback. We asked you to report anything you were not 100% happy with when you arrived. We are a little confused with your comments on Tripadvisor. As you said in your guest book entry, "Thanks for exceeding our expectations during our five night stay at your quaint B&B.....after being in the city all day, it was great to come "home" and chill. Thanks for making our first trip to NOLA a great vacation." Not a 4-star comment. We look forward to your return visit next year. But please speak up then :-)

Big thanks to Wendy and Kevin!.. Beautiful little B & B tucked in the Algiers point. Take the ferry across the Mississippi and stroll along the most friendly quaint neighborhood. We were glad to be away from the hustle n' bustle but so close it was the perfect balance. Kevin was very helpful with our trip excursions as it was our first trip to New Orleans. The rooms were clean and we appreciated the free daily bottled water and Boudin( the Puppy) certainly stole our hearts..We will plan to stay again.

Just got back from our first trip to New Orleans. Kevin's place was perfect: really laid back and cozy, quiet 24/7, delicious and healthy breakfast (granola and fruit, english muffins, orange juice, coffee/tea), wireless internet and a 5 minute walk to the free ferry to the East Bank. Algiers Point is off the beaten tourist path, which is great in many ways, but it also means it takes at least half an hour (and a lot of walking) to get to most things, including the jazz clubs on Frenchmen Street, drinking/restaurants in Uptown, everything in the French Quarter, etc, etc. Still, we'd stay with Kevin again in a heartbeat. Highly recommended.

This is our second time at The House of The Rising Sun BnB and we still enjoy it so much. The hospitality and services is just exellent and Wendy and Kevin always do the best they can to make you feel at home. It is easy to go down town with the ferry, or you can stay in Algiers where it is quiet, but always a lot to do and see. Also if you are a music lover, or especially a fan of the music of New Orleans, the House of the Rising Sun BnB is the best place to be. Kevin knows most of what is worth to know about the history of NOLA music and what is going on at the moment on music scene. We just want to thank Wendy and Kevin again for a "jolly good" week, and hope to be back in 2015 for the Music Fest.

Greetings from Bente Fosli & Harald "Buddy Bolden" Solaas from Norway.

My wife and I had the opportunity to visit New Orleans during the Mardi gras period and stayed at the House of the Rising Sun B & B. This was a long planned trip and we did the booking over a year ago to make sure we could get a room. This is my second stay at House of Rising Sun; the first one was back in 2002. Algiers Point is located on the other side of the Mississippi River from Canal Street and it is a perfect place to stay when you are in NOLA. A quite area and at the same time a very short walk and a ferry trip, and you are in the heart of New Orleans. You can easily walk to Frenchman street where lots of the music venues are located. The ferry is free and goes twice an hour. During Mardi gras this was very convenient since driving around in NOLA with all the parades is not something you want to do.

The room we got was charming and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfasts were great and there is also Wi-Fi available. Having a cup of coffee or a beer and relax in the backyard is also very nice. The hospitality are just fantastic here, you really get a relaxed good feeling being here and Kevin and Wendy are always ready to help if you having questions about NOLA and where to go and so on.

I am a guitar player and I love to play when I am on vacation so I asked Kevin if he knew somewhere that I could rent a guitar during my stay. Guess what; when I opened the door to my room there was a guitar and the Offbeat magazine ready on the bed. That is fantastic.

On Fat Tuesday we were invited to join in on Kevin and Wendy’s private Mardi gras party, started with champagne breakfast at 06AM. Thanks to Kevin & Wendy for giving us the opportunity to experience the real Mardi gras feeling parading around in costumes and partying all day long.

I would highly recommend a stay at the House of the Rising Sun.
I would not consider staying any other places when I am visiting NOLA; my next visit is probably going to be during the Jazz festival in 2015 I hope.

Many thanks for the wonderful review and Mardi Gras Day was very special this year as it fell on my birthday and you made it here! Glad you could experience "our" Mardi Gras and not what you see on some TV channels. There is more to Mardi Gras than getting hammered on Bourbon Street, as you found out. We look forward to seeing you again in 2015 for Jazz Fest. Don't forget to book early :-) In the meantime, please send all your friends from Norway, especially the Blues fans!!

My wife and I had the opportunity to visit New Orleans recently and stayed at the House of the Rising Sun B & B. What an outstanding experience. We were greeted by Kevin and his faithful side kick Boudin. After coffee and conversation, Kevin showed us the property. What a charming, warm home. The room and bed were very comfortable. The breakfasts were outstanding. In addition, the neighborhood was quiet and filled with history (as well as some excellent restaurants and an English style pub with an great beer selection). Another plus is the free ferry that departs every thirty minutes to and from the French Quarter. We could not have asked for more. I would highly recommend a stay at the House of the Rising Sun. I know when we go back we will be staying with Kevin and Boudin again.

Many thanks for your wonderful review! "Boudin the Wonder Dog" and I really enjoyed your company and hopefully, on your next visit, you will meet the wife if she is in town. Hope the snow was not too deep when you returned home and glad you decided to stay the extra night to try and avoid it. Had a fun night at the Crown & Anchor English Pub with you!! Look forward to having you as guests again sometime soon.
