This review is long but necessary & I hope helpful in your decision to stay at this wonderful B&B. After reading reviews on Trip Advisor we decided we definitely wanted to stay at Ashtons for a variety of reasons. Outside yet close to the French Quarter the location is perfect for travelers who want to get away from Bourbon St & get a good nights rest. The place is representative of what us New Englanders thought a B&B in NOLA should be--beautiful home that is well maintained, fine antiques, very very clean, great Aveda products, robes, a carafe of water & candies placed in the room daily along with maid service to freshen the wonderful bed linens & towels make your stay very comfortable. Stayed in Cajun Kitchen Room in the annex in back of home & chose this because we liked having a private entrance & not having to climb stairs. We read the room was small & it is however since we were out exploring the city the focus wasn't on size of the room--just a clean, comfortable place to sleep & added charm of the architecture & details in this room. The bathroom has a whirlpool tub & bath salts were provided to relax sore muscles after walking all day. A very nice amenity. The Cajun Kitchen is perfect for a single person or couple that doesn't mind a small room with added benefit of seperate entrance so you will not disturb other guests coming & going or hear them either or climbing any stairs. The rooms even have a direct line to the taxi service to take you to & from the inn. Now the breakfasts--they are gourmet & served as you arrive in the dining room--visually appealing & sooo tasty with the focus on New Orleans style of cooking without being too spicy or sweet. We had 4 mornings of looking forward to waking up & wondering what would this day be. Postcards with recipes are provided as well as a pic of the home to be sent are perfect. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, waters, sodas, fruit & snacks are provided all day/night long should you want to grab something before heading out for the day or upon returning end of day. Also, cigars are provided for those who wish to take some time to sit & enjoy on the large front porch with rocking chairs to just relax. The parlor & dining room reflect the magnificance of this old home & are decorated accordingly. The back of the home where the annex is has a beautiful oak tree & places to sit & relax outdoors along with 2 kitties that enjoy lounging and do not bother guests at all. The staff are great & make certain you are looked after without hovering. Finally, Patrick is a wonderful chef enjoying talking about his recipes, chatting with his guests talking about the neighborhood, providing maps & info on walking tours in the area & of course makes great recommendations for places to visit & dine. He is better than any concierge at a large hotel. We met Karma the last day & she was so charming & nice. Obviously, we were happy we made the right decision to stay at Ashtons. We hope to return to New Orleans since we couldn't see everything & you know we will be staying here. Thanks to Patrick, Karma & Staff for a wonderful stay that will stay with us always.
