“Charming and Convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013

We spent three nights at this hotel in January and were quite pleased with our experience there in most all respects. The hotel has much the feel of a B & B, is well located in the Garden Dist., with free parking in an adjacent lot.
While small, the room was charming, with a victorian character; bathroom was well appointed and spacious. Easy access to the Charles St. trolley is a plus, as it made it very easy to reach the French Quarter and other sites. We did, however, enjoy having our car close by, giving us greater flexibility in getting around the city. The Garden Dist. is a beautiful historic area for walking, with lovely shops and restaurants both on Charles St. and Magazine St.
Our only dissatisfaction, though not a significant one, was with the breakfast arrangements. The hotel does offer a continental breakfast but it was necessary to cross the street to another property to take advantage of this option; on the day that we decided to do so, breakfast was set up in a very, very small lobby area, with no real seating option. On our last day, the hotel opened a small breakfast room in our own property, which worked out much better.
We would definitely recommend this hotel to other visitors who are looking for a more quiet location than the very busy French Quarter or downtown.

Room Tip: We found it very convenient to be on the 1st floor and away from the parking area. While there is s...

I stay about 90 nights a year in all types of hotels, inns and B and Bs. I would say it is okay. It is a nice place, but they do a bad job at communicating. They said nothing online that I found that tells you where to check in, although I read in a response from the hotel it is in the fine print. If you know people don't realize from that I think it should be clearer somewhere else. I took a cab to the hotel and then had to haul my stuff around the corner. I travel alone so it is very annoying to not be clearly told in advance. I also did not like that they did not say even at check in that you will have to walk around the corner to a partner hotel for the included breakfast. To be honest I would not have stayed there just because of that. As I later read in reviews, no one likes this! Find a way to do the breakfast at the Prytania Oaks even when it is quieter because you essentially make it so your weekday customers are given less service. I hate to say all negative because it was not overall a bad experience and I would stay again if the other place I like in the neighborhood is out of my budget. So the positive part of my review is that it is slightly less expensive than some others but with a lot less included.

Dear Guest,

I appreciate your review, and Thank You for taking the time out of your busy life to write it.

We do have a breakfast room at the property that is operational for our 16 rooms and 12 rooms of the 3rd sister property, The Queen Anne, caddy corner and across the street from the Oaks. The room is fully operational, however, the economies of scale dictate if its opened or breakfast is served around the corner at the sister property, the Prytania Park. It is a 2 minute walk, if that, door to door. And yes, some guests find it inconvenient, but many do not, and they understand the economics. Keeping our prices lower than most has been more appreciated by guests and accept the 2 min. walk for the Free Expanded Continental Breakfast. Most would rather this as a trade off than having to pay higher prices to open the breakfast room for just a few rooms. It does not mean you are less important, but its more of a cost savings effort for your pocket.

However, your comment about communication of check in location is not accurate BUT, I am truly sorry you had a problem.

On our Confirmation letters (booked via phone, or from web site), it is very clear where check in is. However, if you booked your hotel via 3rd party, their Confirmations letters all have the same information as ours, but it is mixed into the verbage of their own caveats and policies, so it does get lost in the fine print.

When a guest checks in who has had this issue, we ask for the confirmation letter upon arrival to show them. We get the same response most times. We have found that many do not read those confirmation letters all the way because of all the extra information they print out.

We can not and will not be held responsible for 3rd party confirmations. Book directly, and you will never have a problem knowing where you are going. Book with a Discounter to save a penny or 2, and you accept minor problems and inconveinences.

For those who do not read them completely, we do have a large sign on the Front Gate of Prytania Oaks and a Map to show you were around the corner you have to go. As I said, its about a 2 minute walk, if that.

Au Beintot,

At first we were concerned when we had to check-in at a different location and they sent us down the street and around a corner. When we got there, we were pleasantly surprised. The room was quaint, clean and very comforting. The bathroom was large and the shower was great. They offered a continental breakfast with actual glass dishes and cloth napkins! No foam plates! We had free parking vs the $25/night downtown. Also we were very close to the trolley line if we didn't want to drive. Would I go back there again? Definitely!

Room Tip: We stayed at Prytania Oaks. I understand there are a couple of other properties, but I cannot comme...

The room was beautiful! Very comfortable bed, elegant bathroom, great shower, quiet and just a little bit away from the hussle and bussel of downtown. Highly recommend the Oaks over their sister property the Park. Only issue really was service. You have to check in at the sister hotel a block away, and the breakfast is off property also. First night four, the room was not made up at all. I guess cleaning was done early, and even though we put out the 'Clean Room" tag on the door, no one ever came back to check. Then there was no service to bring you clean towels or anything as the hotel desk is a block away at the other Property. If they could get the service more organized, this would be my got to place very visit. Free parking right next to the hotel or on the street. One block from the New Trolly line that runs to the French Quarter. Most comforable room of the trip.

Room Tip: Ask for the bottom floor. And if the weather is nice, there is a beautiful courtyard that is enclos...

Came across the hotel by "googling" New Orleans boutique hotels and knew immediately that this was what we wanted. Room was comfortable, exceptionally quiet and well-appointed (probably the best shower we've had ANYWHERE!). One block off St. Charles Street. If you've never been to New Orleans, we recommend the one-day city tour which included the most popular sites and was well narrated. Hotel staff had inadvertently overbooked for the two nights were were there and they placed us into the Oaks instead of the Prytania Park. Breakfast is included in the rate and was quite nice. Staff friendly and helpful, with hotel and with our tour inquiries. Highly recommend.

Although the location is a bit obscure, it is really a hidden treasure in the Garden District. Nice clean rooms that are nicely furnished. The only down side was the maid service. One day they finished after 6 pm, and another day they did not leave towels. The daily continent breakfast was quite good and the attendant was superb.

We stayed at the Prytania Park Hotel last year (in a "Charming Queen" room) and enjoyed it well enough, except for the tiny bathroom. The Prytania Oaks Hotel room we stayed in this year is far superior. We stayed in a king room on the front of the house and loved it. The room and the bathroom are quite spacious. The room includes a mini-fridge, microwave, ironing board & iron, hair dryer, basic toiletries, a flat-screen wall-mounted TV, an armoire w/clothes hangers (don't know if the hangers are standard - possibly left over from previous guest), and a safe for valuables.
Basic room service each day included making the bed and bringing fresh towels.

While this hotel and room was a more expensive choice than our previous stay, I'd say it's well worth the upgrade. While our previous stay was perfectly acceptable, this one was simply perfect.

We also enjoyed the breakfast service 2 of the 4 mornings we were there (we slept in a couple days). It's a great selection and a charming atmosphere, whether you choose to sit inside or out in the courtyard. If you sit inside, you can watch the news/weather on the TV in the breakfast room. On the morning we left, the breakfast attendant helped me to switch by tea from one of their beautiful china cups to a to-go cup so I could take it with me.

Note: Not your standard hotel, so don't stay here if you're expecting that. The Prytania Oaks is a short walk around the corner from your check-in site at Prytania Park. There is some parking at the Oaks, but a much larger lot at Prytania Park. Parking is free.
