We went there half-way through November, and apparently this is one of the quietest time of the years - it's not tourist season, plus people were going home for Thanksgiving. There's plenty of bars there, each with their own culture and atmosphere. At that time basically a few of the bars were completely packed, while the rest were basically empty. I think in general it's quite different to Bourbon street, some prefer it because it seems less commercial and more boutique. If you've got time, definitely go there and see for yourself.
