“Lovely house, great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2012

We spent 6 nights at the Maison du Bois for a special event and reserved the entire house. It's a great location, just 1/2 block off the north border of the French Quarter and a few short blocks to Frenchman St. It's a safe location for walking and there's a convenient corner market down the block. Street parking wasn't a problem with the parking pass we requested from our host in advance. We walked to and from the Dome, which is a healthy 30-minute walk but pleasant and safe.
The backyard pool area is charming and private. Two bedrooms (Esplanade and Orleans) open onto a shared balcony that overlooks the pool and has a staircase leading down. Esplanade has a king bed, two closets, and a nice bathroom. Orleans has a queen bed, a split bathroom (toilet separate), and a generous sitting area. Between Esplanade and the kitchen area is the Plantation suite with a queen bed. It has a large bath area and boasts an antique mirror. Across the hall is the two-bedroom Dauphine-Marigny suite with a bath situated between the two bedrooms. One bedroom has a very tall queen bed and the other has two twins. The largest room is the Vieux Carre suite with a magnificent queen-sized antique Belgiun bed and enormous sitting room.
All the rooms have lovely furnishings that have been hand-selected in good taste. All rooms are on the main level of the house.
Everyone in our group liked our host, Tom. He was very friendly and is extremely knowledgeable about New Orleans. He recommended restaurants that the locals visit, but if you're going to be there at a busy time, ask in advance so you can make reservations.
Even our pickiest travelers were delighted with this selection, so I'm rating 5-stars.

My family went to the final four and rented the entire house. This is such a beautiful home and both Tom and Gary were perfect hosts. The pool area is a nice escape from the heat, and the home is close enough to the action but far enough away that we could escape crowds when needed. We always had clean towels and Tom was nice enough to print all of our boarding passes and even was patient enough to help me pick my seats for the flight. I stayed in the suite with double beds- the door was tricky to shut and did not appear to have a lock. This was not an issue for me since I was sharing with family, but just something to note. All-in-all great stay and would go again!

Wonderful place! The hospitality is terrific (Tom the owner is extremely helpful.) and the place is beautiful. Very well maintained. Each bedroom has a separate bath. The location is perfect, close enough to walk to the French Quarter but away from the noise. I recommend it highly. One thing to know is that since it is a B&B, the kitchen, living room, dining room and pool area are communal so you must be willing to be with others you may not know!

My fiance & I stayed there two summers ago. Amazing experience! Tom (owner) was very helpful with where to go and places to be careful, etc. Very nice man. Have to stay a minimum of two days (we didn't realize until we got there). New Orleans is AMAZING! We love the French Quarter! This place has a really nice pool in the back that is very private. Five minute walk to Bourbon Street. The only thing we didn't love was that the rooms weren't sound proof, so everything can be heard (like a normal house), but it's a really nice, cozy, and clean place. We had the cheapest room in the house and it was still spacious with an ensuite bathroom and nicely decorated! Breakfast is included but don't expect anything special. Toast and jam is what I remember (We were a bit disappointed about that). Otherwise, amazing! Definitely recommend it and will definitely be going back there!

Was in NOLA for 4 nights in December and wanted a place close to both Bourbon and Frenchman St. but also closer to the local culture than a chain hotel but with some elegance and a pool. Maison Dubois exceeded on all counts. The building itself is an experience with its high ceilings and antique carpentry. The pool and backyard is a quiet oasis. The location is perfect for walking anywhere and Tom and Gary were charming, fun and interesting. I can't imagine what happened with another reviewer to create any friction with Tom because he seemed to be nothing but charming and accommodating in every way. Morning coffee on the front porch was one of the highlights of the trip!

My wife and I really enjoy Maison DuBois Bed and Breakfast. From the moment we arrived Tom helped us with out bags, showed us a large room with a private sitting room and balcony overlooking the pool and palm trees. Everything was very clean and the house is full or beautiful antiques.
The B&B location was perfect. Very safe neighborhood walkable to everything in the french quarter as well as Frenchmen street (the music was great at the clubs here). We got great recommendations on places to visit as well as eat from both Tom & Gary that we would not have found without a local recommendation.
Our experience was far better than I could have ever expected. We will be back for sure.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Orleans room and love it. Large room, balcony, large sitting area. http://maisondu...

2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2011

We rented out the entire property for a bachelorette weekend for our friend. There were about 10 of us, in our 30s, 25% of us were pregnant so it wasn't like it was "Girls Gone Wild" or anything, it was a fairly subdued girls' getaway. We loved the property and the rooms and were enjoying the pool on the first day when Gary, the owner, came outside and accused us of breaking the plaster fleur de lis pool decoration. He went on to accuse us of hanging on it. We all stared at him like he was crazy because we had no idea what he was talking about since none of us had been hanging on it and we certainly hadn't broken it. Then he stormed out and said we'd have to pay for it when we settled our final bill.

Throughout the rest of the weekend, Gary made us all extremely uncomfortable by cornering anyone he could and harassing them about how they would have to pay for the fleur de lis. We all calmly told him over and over we hadn't broken it, we weren't paying for it, and he could take the issue up with the maid of honor who was coordinating the weekend, yet he persisted. Then upon check out, when we went to take photos of the fleur de lis, lest he try to charge our credit card for it, he confronted us again and said he was going to seek legal action against us if we didn't pay for it. We again calmly explained to him that we had not damaged it and that we would not be paying for it. Then as we were getting our luggage to leave, Gary confronted us AGAIN and said that he couldn't believe that we were making Tom pay for the fleur de lis out of his paycheck because we had allegedly damaged it. So let me get this straight, he's going to pursue legal action against us AND take the money out of Tom's paycheck? Doesn't seem ethical does it?

Gary's behavior towards us was disrespectful and unprofessional and his constant harassment made for a very uncomfortable weekend for people who had paid a lot of money to rent out EVERY ROOM in his B&B. Do yourself a favor and don't stay here, because Gary might find something else that is damaged and try and pin it on you and the next thing you know, you're going to have his "legal team" coming after you for allegedly breaking a $30 pool decoration instead of coming away with warm vacation memories. AVOID THIS PROPERTY!
