“Moved in for a whole week.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2014

I met the Milwaukee couple from 2 reviews down, and I agree with their glowing reviews. After Charlie gave me the grand tour of Memories, I settled in for 7 nights, starting January 25.

As I do not like the tall office buildings and busy tourist areas of the CBD, the Marigny neighborhood delivered a more authentic New Orleans experience. This is definitely a residential neighborhood, with a few rehabs taking place throughout the many streets.

The Memories room has recently been painted pea green, and the bed was super comfy. Red sheets!

The washroom was well stocked with plush towels and wide vanity. Though the shower stall was a tad small for my 6'4" height, the hot water was ample.

Blissfully quiet each night! Small 50-channel TV. Widest closet space EVER. Stocked the room fridge with Winn-Dixie breakfast foods.

A very good value.

Warm, friendly, helpful hosts Charlie & Kim
Small but clean and comfortable rooms.
Convenient location within walking distance to the French Quarter and the trolley system.
Charming Marigny neighborhood worth exploring for its delightful, colorful homes.
Good restaurants right nearby.
And Creole Inn is the most affordable accommodation in NOLA.
DON'T PASS IT BY.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Historic Creole Inn! We were there for 5 nights and were pleased with our stay. Make sure you read the web-site if you are a fussy traveler. They deliver what they promise: a safe, quiet and hospitable place to stay. What it may lack in amenities, Kim and Charley balance the equation with their friendliness and helpfulness! It was a pleasure to meet them both and we look forward to seeing them again. Kim, we will bring Ring Balogna and Cheese Curds for sure!
The neighborhood is great. Make sure you treat yourself to dinner at Feelings Cafe!
The location is outstanding....an easy walk to Frenchman Street!
Best place for breakfast..Who Dat? Cafe!
There were many cool cafes and bars in the immediate area. Take your time and check em out!
The New Orleans Food Co-op is just blocks away...Great!
Also...just about a mile or so away in Bywater, Bacchanal and Vaughns...don't miss em!
We miss NOLA and the Historic Creole Inn already!

Room Tip: The best mattress we had was in Plantation, the best room we had was Memories. We like to have fresh...

When I visit New Orleans I spend little time in the room. Just need quiet, comfort, and the basics. This place was just right. Two rooms with a bath between made it very easy to share with a fellow companion and very affordable. Secure with lots of great places to eat and a store/deli in short walking distance. Plus very close to Frenchmen. And, plenty of coffee each morning. They can even provide a ride back to the airport.

When we go to New Orleans, we spend little time in our room. We get up, get out and crash at the end of the day. The Creole Inn is perfect for us! It is like staying in your friends extra bedroom, nothing fancy, but clean and AFFORDABLE! Within walking distance of the things we want to do. Kim and Charlie, the hosts, are great people to work with, very accommodating. If you are looking for turn down service with a mint on your pillow and a dining room, this is probably not your place, but for us it is perfect. We are going back in April with a group of 12 and plan on renting out the whole house some time next year.
The Creole Inn feels like home to us and we wouldn't stay anywhere else!

I truly love The Creole Inn, and have frequented this place non-stop for years! The Creole Inn is a place I call as "home", and has become "a God sent gift" as a result of regular visits to the city. When visiting New Orleans, I want to feel like "a New Orleanian" and live like the locals, rather than staying in a pampered hotel only to feel like a tourist. Staying at the Creole Inn truly meets that objective.

There are many pros about the Creole Inn. It is located in a very artsy neighborhood - a neighborhood I would chose to live if relocating to the city. The Creole Inn is old and historic, which I love. It is only blocks from Frenchman Street, and is a wonderful, short and uplifting walk to the French Quarter. This facility has always been very clean, cozy and comfortable, and the sleeping accommodations exceptional, especially n the Memories suite. The staff members have always been consistently warm and friendly, and very accommodating. They have also become somewhat of a "family" to me as a result of multiple visits throughout the years.

I will always continue to visit the city of New Orleans, and The Creole Inn is where I will choose to stay. I would have it no other way!

Room Tip: The Memories Suite is my favorite room in the house, and usually book this suite if available.

As most the other reviews make clear, Creole Inn is a very minimalistic hotel, which we understood up front. Given that, the Creole Inn provided more amenities than I would have expected; there was a hair drier, a small TV, a mini fridge, high quality toilet paper, and coffee and tea every morning. The location is wonderful- within a couple blocks are several cute coffee shops and a couple fun little bars, maybe five or six blocks away is Frenchman Street, and everything else can be reached by riding the RTA buses (there's at least three bus stops within a few blocks of the Inn). The Innkeepers are extremely friendly, although they can be difficult to get ahold of.

The Creole Inn is a good value, however travelers should be warned that the minimalistic approach is applied to cleanliness as well. There are cockroaches - we saw two enjoying a leisurely stroll across the dresser and one inspecting the mini fridge- and there was some mold in the bathroom, though I understand that's fairly common in the area due to the humidity. Avoid looking under or behind anything; beneath the sink was disgusting (I pitched the tube of chapstick that rolled under there because it was so nasty) and there was a condom, lots of hair, and other bits of who knows what underneath the bed. All grass in the vicinity is loaded with landmines of the stinky variety, and you should watch your step on the sidewalks as well (this problem is epidemic in the whole neighborhood). The carpet is pretty grungy and has an odor, so you may want to bring an air freshener. Our bathroom had two bathmats in it; the second was used to hide the tiles broken over rotted out floorboards, which seems like it could be a safety concern.

In summary, Creole Inn is a good value, so long as you don't look too closely. I believe that a little extra time could be invested in improving the cleanliness of place, and to me at least that would be worth an extra $5-$10 a night.

We would like to first thank you for staying with us. We would also like to thank you for signing the sheet upon arrival that stated you agreed that the room was clean and did not need any further cleaning. We take great pride in being clean and a military family and this is why we have all of our guests to sign a cleanliness sheet when they arrive. We give our guests a form to inspect the room when they arrive. We give them plenty of time to look through the room and notify us that the room is not clean enough for their tastes. We also have the carpets cleaned on a regular basis. The number of regular guests that we have speaks to what we have to offer. We would ask for anyone that stays with us to take the time to inspect the entire room and if the room is not clean enough to be KIND enough to let us know so we can clean it again to meet your standards. We appreciate your response but would appreciate honesty at check-in and not 6 days after you have stayed with us. We value honesty and respond to all discrepancies.
