Circle Bar on Lee Circle is one of the best places to have few drinks and listen some good music (local musicians). The is a hidden gem of NOLA where locals go for drinks and fun. The ambient is of a dive bar but great music and relaxed atmosphere makes is worth going. The prices are probably below French Q, and even with a $5 cover for live music it's still cheeper than many touristy lounges and bars. Do not be surprised but at the Circle Bar you can hear folk, country, jazz, blues, funk music. Everybody dances on the small area in front of the band, so as Ron Burgundy would say "when in rome...."
Try famous PBR beer for just $2, or some of the tap ales for $5. There is small patio for smokers where you can mingle, talk to musicians and make new friends. Parking is free on the side streets (if with a car), or just get there by a street car that will stop just few yards from the bar. Circle Bar is few block away from all the madness of French Q, so it a great place to be away from all the college kids and drunk tourists.
