I rolled into NOLA, settled into my room, and walked around the corner for my first meal in The Big Easy. This place was recommended as a neighborhood place for decent local food. Kind of a honky tonk bar- open 24 hours, as many places down here are. The ambience isnt amazing but it is kind of "normal". Nice mellow vibe to the place- at least when I was there. Guess thats because the place was pretty much empty when I was there!?
I had an Abita amber draft beer, choosing Jambalaya off the specials board. The beer was cold, and the food was decent. The server was very nice, and efficient.
All in all, my visit to the St Charles Tavern was a success. I'll definitely go back & try them again. probably try one of my two menu choices, the shrimp Po Boy, or the chicken fried steak...
Give 'em a try. Probably, you won't be over run by a bunch of touristas.
