We decided to try the Crescent City Brewhouse on the recommendation of family. When we stopped in it was 8pm on a Thursday and the man behind the greeters stand looked at us like we had just rolled in manure. Seriously, I've never had someone treat me that way at first glance. We weren't dressed up, just jeans and LSU sweatshirts, but we certainly didn't look like bums rolling off the street either.
Luckily our server, Shannon W, made up for the rude guy at the door. She was positively lovely and cheerful. She brought out the 5 sample beer selection in record time and ran through what all the beers were with intelligence and thoughtfulness. She took our order quickly and our food was out within the next 10 minutes!
I had the Cochon de Lait Po'boy (milk fed pork) it came with coleslaw on top and even BBQ sauce if I wanted it. Charles had the fried shrimp Po'boy. The first thing I will say is that they had the best french fries ever!! Thin, crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside and just right! Both the Po'boys were huge and covered in fried shrimp or pork. I could barely finish half of mine!
The 5 beer sample was delicious as well. I preferred the weis beer (unfiltered wheat) but the seasonal beer was delicious too (dunkelweiss). Charles preferred the Red Stallion and the Stout (? - it was a very dark beer). Neither of us cared for the pilsner but not because it wasn't good, just because we don't drink pilsners.
The menu is fairly pricey but they certainly give you lots of food.
Out bill for the night (two Po'boys and the 5 beer sampler) was $39.95 before tip. The average sandwich ran around $13.95, if I remember correctly.
This isn't a bad place to eat but there are definitely other places I would try if you want to experience New Orleans food!
