I have been enjoying great meals in the French Quarter and downtown several times a year since Hurricane Katrina. However, because Irene’s is advertised as an Italian restaurant, I have not made visiting a priority – big mistake. On my January 30, 2014, visit, I ordered Meuniere Amandine ($22.75) a nice portion of drum with lump crab and almonds which was well executed and the drum was very fresh. I also had Oysters Irene ($9.75), oysters baked with pancetta and Romano which was rich and satisfying. My dining partners graciously allowed me to taste their Crevette ($19.75) drum sautéed with gulf shrimp and San Francisco Cioppino ($28.00), both well executed and flavorful. However, it was the service that really impressed me; it was nearly flawless.
