“One of those special places in NOLA”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2008

Susan Spicer has made this one of the best places to eat in New Orleans. And on your list for the US.

This is just one of those places you have to go to when you are in New Orleans. The overall experience is 5 star for a reason.

We have found the food, the service and the experience to be worth the trouble to go to this restaurant. Bayona is in the French Quarter just one street away from the river. If you are going for lunch or the night will be nice, the patio is wonderful. If the day is humid or if you want weather protection go inside.

If you have a chance try the Saturday Lunch. This is a simple one page menu with 12 or so savory dishes and 6 sweet dishes. You pick any three you want. All servings are about right in size but if you want you can order another item for a small additional charge. Look over the wine list carefully, ask your table host if you have questions about the wines. You will want to find a wine that will fit you and guests food selections. Now enjoy the wind and food.

Bayona is not cheap, the Saturday lunch is in the $25 per person range and the wine list is in $30 and up range. But we think you get good value for your dollar. We have also found this to be true at dinner.

Put Bayona on your Restaurant list. If you are a cookbook person, have Susan sign a copy of her's for you.

“Out of this world”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2008

This is one of the best meals I've had in a long time.
From the bread to the dessert...everything was delicious.
I had the Goat Cheese Crouton with Mushrooms in Madeira Cream followed by the foie gras stuffed goose.
Every bite was like a party in my mouth.
The service wasn't great...but not terrible either.
I was dining alone and the waiter seemed much more
concerned about his other tables of two or more.
Regardless, I would definitely recommend Bayona.
Romantic and quaint. Perfect for a date or special occasion.

“the duck breast sandwich is to die for”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2008

I'm confused by some of the so-so reviews Bayona gets on this site. Everytime we eat there, we have a superb meal. Maybe we just hit it on the right nights. Or maybe people are expecting creole or cajun food - which is not what Bayona serves. If you're uncertain, try it for lunch, when you can order chef Susan Spicer's deservedly famous smoked duck breast and hot pepper jelly dish as a sandwich. the first time we ate there, my wife ordered it and it put a look of rapture on her face that i had never seen before. it's that good.

“My favorite dinner of our trip.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2008

We spent a week in New Orleans just to eat-- and out of the 6 French Quarter restaurants we visited- Bayona was my romantic favorite and the lobster canneloni was my favorite dish of the whole time! We ate in the romantic "wine room" and the two people serving us were friendly and made the experience seem special.
