“Great Food and Great Atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2011

Muriel's is always a favorite for me and my wife. When we visit N.O. we always try to make it one of our stops. The bar is always filled with tourists and locals alike. It is always fun to listen and share stories. The lunch menu is very good. The crawfish and goat cheese crepes are excellent. The petit filet and garlic mash potatoes are wonderful.
We have pretty much tried everything on the lunch menu and have never been disappointed. At night the dining is excellent, I would highly recommend the crab cakes, the best I have ever had.
If you have time and the upstairs is not occupied with a party, I would recommend you take in the sights. These are some amazing rooms and the decor is fantastic. I have spent a fair amount of time upstairs sipping wine and talking with friends. It is a must if you are from N.O. and especially if you are not. You will be amazed!

“Wonderful, Centrally Located New Orleans Classic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2011

I was initially drawn to Muriel's because of their fixed price three course menu (appetizer, entree, and dessert) for about $30. I had every intention of eating off that menu until I sat down and heard that the grilled fish of the day was swordfish! To start, we ordered a bottle wine (2007 Barth "Allure" Riesling), which was a perfect complement to both the salad (with a bacon vinaigrette) and the swordfish. The swordfish was cooked perfectly and came over well seasoned vegetables. We passed on dessert, not because it didn't look appetizing, but because we wanted Cafe du Mond!

The servers were very friendly and accommodating. I have an allergy that I had informed the restaurant about when I made the reservation, and they had already checked to make sure I knew what I could and could not eat! Outstanding service, I would absolutely go back.

“pretentious”

I was expecting some grilled fish and they came with a fish pie. With a scale in it.
So if you like simple and tasty food, don't go. Else you'd consider of going to Kentucky Fried instead: at least it is cheaper.

“Wow - excellent!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2011

We ate at Muriel's recently, and it was terrific! We were seated in their indoor courtyard, which is lovely. The food and service were both excellent - in particular the gorgonzola & prosciutto tart appetizer - wow! And the duck confit/bean cassoulet was as good as anything we've had in France. The service was attentive but not overbearing, very friendly and caring. I would return here in a heartbeat.

“Home run for dinner, a double for lunch!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2011

We had read about Muriel's on Trip Advisor and made reservations in advance of our trip. We were seated promptly at a very nice table in the "red" room (on the first floor, it has another , more formal, name but the waier said it is often referred to as the "red" room). A very pretty room. Our waiter, Youssef, made us feel comfortable and provided excellent guidance. His service was outstanding. We both chose from the Table D'hote menu which is an outstanding value. You get an appetizer, entree and dessert for $32. My wife started with the shrimp and goat cheese crepes. Outstanding! My turtle soup was very good. The wood grilled salmon was an excellent entree. I had asked Youssef what his favorite entree was and he immediately answered, "the double cut pork chop". I went with it. These are brined before they are cooked and topped with a sugar cane apple glaze. As tender as a filet mignon, it simply was the best chop I have ever enjoyed. I would go there just to have it again. It came with the best collard greens I've tasted and marvelous pecan glazed sweet potatoes. Desserts of bread pudding and creme burlee were wonderful. This was a five start dinner!

We wanted to see the Seance room when we had dinner but it was hosting a private party so we were told we could come back the next afternoon. It was worth the trip. It is on the second floor and quite ornate with a wonderful aura about it. We decided to have lunch. We ate in another nice room on the first floor by a window. Our waiter was quite pleasant but a bit too casual for my taste. A couple of much older ladies, mother and daughter, were seated next to us. The waiter constantly referred to them as "you guys". These were lovely, well-dressed ladies, not "guys". Anyway, the pace of lunch was just too fast. Had one sip of my drink and there was my soup. Then here they came with the entree. There was a single cut pork chop on the lunch menu and, based on the prior evening, I ordered it. It was only fair, nothing at all like the double cut at dinner. So, a 3 star lunch. Average of dinner and lunch equals a 4. Go for dinner!
