We had read about Muriel's on Trip Advisor and made reservations in advance of our trip. We were seated promptly at a very nice table in the "red" room (on the first floor, it has another , more formal, name but the waier said it is often referred to as the "red" room). A very pretty room. Our waiter, Youssef, made us feel comfortable and provided excellent guidance. His service was outstanding. We both chose from the Table D'hote menu which is an outstanding value. You get an appetizer, entree and dessert for $32. My wife started with the shrimp and goat cheese crepes. Outstanding! My turtle soup was very good. The wood grilled salmon was an excellent entree. I had asked Youssef what his favorite entree was and he immediately answered, "the double cut pork chop". I went with it. These are brined before they are cooked and topped with a sugar cane apple glaze. As tender as a filet mignon, it simply was the best chop I have ever enjoyed. I would go there just to have it again. It came with the best collard greens I've tasted and marvelous pecan glazed sweet potatoes. Desserts of bread pudding and creme burlee were wonderful. This was a five start dinner!
We wanted to see the Seance room when we had dinner but it was hosting a private party so we were told we could come back the next afternoon. It was worth the trip. It is on the second floor and quite ornate with a wonderful aura about it. We decided to have lunch. We ate in another nice room on the first floor by a window. Our waiter was quite pleasant but a bit too casual for my taste. A couple of much older ladies, mother and daughter, were seated next to us. The waiter constantly referred to them as "you guys". These were lovely, well-dressed ladies, not "guys". Anyway, the pace of lunch was just too fast. Had one sip of my drink and there was my soup. Then here they came with the entree. There was a single cut pork chop on the lunch menu and, based on the prior evening, I ordered it. It was only fair, nothing at all like the double cut at dinner. So, a 3 star lunch. Average of dinner and lunch equals a 4. Go for dinner!
