Heard this was best gumbo in NOLA.Had to go there first.Gumbo is good...not loaded with lots of meat.It was good, not great.I intend to eat a lot of gumbo in NOLA...will continue journey.
Had the ettoufee...very rich...very good.Bread pudding was great...because it was more sugar than bread..perfect for me.
Most diners there seemed to love it.Great atmosphere...this is what I think of of NO.

Thanks for stopping by, John! We're so glad to hear how much you enjoyed our Etouffee, but we wish that our Gumbo had made a better impression. We'd like to know more about that—don't hesitate to reach out if you have any additional feedback! Until then, thanks for the fantastic review. We'd love to show you a 5-star experience next time you're in NOLA.

All the best,

“Delicious gumbo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2013

Great restaurant to get authentic creole and cajun food. The chicken and adoullie sausage gumbo was delicious. The bread was served warm and was crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. The red beans and rice were also very good. My friends had mixed reviews on the cajun sampler.

“A piece of history in the French Quarter.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

Be prepared for a wait getting into this iconic restaurant. The good news is the food is authentic and delicious! The St. Peters Punch they serve there is a nice coctail. We had the combo platter entree and the Creaole dinner. Delicious and authentic! I also had the bread pudding here and loved it.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

If you are just visiting, and haven't a lot of experience with Gumbo, order the Gumbo Trio...you get 3 cups of different gumbos and you can experience the various kinds. Loved, loved, loved the corn and crayfish gumbo! Fast service.

“Yummy Cajun!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

We went to The Gumbo Shop because it had the best selection of all the most popular Cajun/Creole dishes-- jambalaya, gumbo, etoufee, shrimp creole, etc. You can find a selection of these dishes on most menus in NOLA, but the Gumbo Shop has all of them! One stop shop!

Since it was a beautiful day, we opted to eat in the courtyard. It's super cute, albeit a little cramped. I got the jambalaya-- BOMB! I definitely recommend that dish. My husband got small portions of boudin, seafood gumbo, and crawfish etoufee because he couldn't decide on just one dish. The boudin was awesome! The gumbo was pretty good, although I'm more of a chicken and sausage gumbo girl. And the etoufee... eh. I've had better.

Overall, it was a great place with a good atmosphere and friendly staff. I'd go back.
