“Perfection”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

I can't begin to explain what a perfect experience this dinner was. The delicious food is only part of what made it so special. Our service was so outstanding that my friend doubled his tip (something I've never seen him do!). He was obviously an expert with the menu, appeared to enjoy his job very much, was patient with our questions and a very warm person. At the same time, he never hovered or bothered us with "everything tasting alright?" banter. The excellent service begins with the smile we recieved by the hostess; she acted like we were guests in her home and we were just the folks she was waiting to see. I did not like the fried lobster tail appetizer but the sheepshead fish and the blackened fish were both absolutely to die for. Appetizer, two meals, bottle of wine and one dessert was all about 120.00. Amazing!

“NOLA best”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

great food, great service, great atmosphere. we had a romantic date night at GW Fins and ordered the wood frilled gulf shrimp appetizer, and one of the daily fish specials (can't remember which - but it was fantastic!) GWF is moderately pricey and they have pretty good portions, so we split our meal. good visit overall - and this is my boyfriend's favorite restaurant in new orleans!

“Could Be the Best Seafood Restaurant in the USA”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

To agree with what the other reviewers here have said, in a very competitive restaurant town, GW Fins really stands out. Eaten here twice with my family and the food is amazing. The lobster dumpling and smoked oyster appetizers, the red snapper with shrimp etouffe, the blackened swordfish, scallops etc, etc.(the menu varies depending on what fish the chef thinks is the best each day): each was made with incredible care and attention to both the ingredients and the method of cooking. Even the biscuits melt in your mouth (but fight the temptation to fill up on them). The room is large and open and somewhat rounded. It's lively, but not so noisy that it is hard to hear your companions. Each time, we've sat in booths in the slightly elevated section in the back and it was very comfortable. Service is old school in a good sense and not stuffy. It is flat out better food than the established seafood restaurants in Boston, New York, or Chicago and, don't tell them, but they charge a bit less, too. For me, this is best seafood place in the US. Already made reservations to return during JazzFest. Can't wait.
