“Outstanding in Every Way”

My wife and I stayed in the Pelican Suite from 6/18 to 6/22. We lucked out in that we happened to be the only guests in the B&B during this time so had the hosts full attention, who were the best hosts one could hope for in my humble opinion. They clearly loved the city and were more than happy to offer their experiences and suggestions which made dining out and finding our way around TONS easier. Our mini-fridge was always stocked with water and other drinks they provided and there were new offerings of snacks every day upon our return from enjoying the city. The property itself is lovely and well maintained, not uptight or pretentious at all which is crucial to my wife and I when we visit any place. They even had free bikes for us to use!! There is no reason for anyone to feel the least bit nervous in this neighborhood. My wife and I biked all over the place and received nothing but kindness and hellos on all of our journeys. The breakfast was always a nice sampling of local wares and hit the spot nicely for us. We'll be back the next time we head down to New Orleans.

There is so much more to New Orleans than Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest. Not that there is anything wrong with them, but there is something to be said for New Orleans in the slow season. It is the city people fall in love with when they make it home. We are so glad you found us and let us share our little piece of the city with you. We both hope the psychic was right!

My boyfriend and I stayed three nights at La Belle Esplanade in the Les Fleurs suite. We were in town for my cousin's graduation from Tulane, and everybody else in my extended family stayed at expensive, boring, soul-less hotels in the business district that were more expensive. We were looking for a more authentic taste of New Orleans, and we could not have found a better place to stay. This bed and breakfast and our hosts Mathew and Melonie were lovely. The rooms were beautiful and comfortable, I really liked the antique furnishings and especially the claw-footed bath tub. I definitely recommend borrowing the bicycles they provide, we didn't need a car the whole time. The location was very convenient for biking to the French Quarter, City Park and Frenchman street which was only a few blocks away, which is where we heard the best music. We really enjoyed riding up and down the broad streets shaded by huge trees. Each time we met up with our family for graduation festivities in the Superdome and various restaurants around town, we usually got there first on our bikes and locked them up right in front of the door while everybody else was looking and paying for parking for their rental cars. When we weren't with our family we spent much of the weekend exploring the city by bike, Mathew recommended routes and streets to explore to get a sense of different flavors in the city. Each day we got to try a new local breakfast treat: crawfish pie, crab cakes, mufaletta along with other local stuff. Mathew was always eager to tell us where they had gotten things, like the locally made jams from someone 30 minutes away out in a swamp. Melonie recommended a little place nearby that sold crawfish by the pound, which we bought and ate in a nearby park for lunch one day. We had a fantastic time and highly recommend it!

Room Tip: We stayed in Les Fleurs, which I think is the only one on the ground floor. Sitting on the porch wa...

I was thinking you made the better choice when you checked in. The Dalai Lama was in town and it screwed up all the taxi traffic. It's a good thing we had those bikes. We are glad you enjoyed them to see parts of the city that most people don't see, and not worry about parking.

Initially I was a little nervous about the neighborhood, but once we settled in I really enjoyed not being in a touristy part of town. We were about a 10-15 minute walk to the edge of the French Quarter.

Our room was really lovely and very comfortable. The breakfast offered a diverse number of options. No complaints!

What really made the whole experience though was our hosts, Matthew and Melanie. They offered very interesting commentary and insider information. We really enjoyed chatting with them. This was our first time to visit New Orleans and they really enriched the experience and our appreciation for the city.

Loved this place, these hosts. Our family stayed in the Clio Suite in March. Agree with every single good thing said by past reviewers. Matthew and Melanie were so helpful about every question we had, such interesting hosts, but we did not feel we had to entertain them which I have sometimes felt at B & Bs. It was a beautiful and funky place with interesting art, incredible decor (elegant and fun), comfy beds, enormous windows that work, fantastic food sourced from several local vendors (try the jams! the crawfish pie!!), great books -- local reference to comic, plenty of hot water, private balconies, a wonderful garden space with lots of gated parking (but for sure who needs a car!), and BICYCLES we all three borrowed to sail around the city! At night, when we were plum worn out, the fridge was stocked with cool and unique beverages, treats on the pillow... A real find!

My wife and I spent 4 nights here. I can not say enough about this place. Our room was full of gorgeous antique furniture and our refrigerator was stocked with all kinds off goodies like wines other local delights. Mathew and Melanie are wonderful hosts. They serve local food from some of the shops nearby. During breakfast they love to hear about your adventures and try to help with any questions you might have about New Orleans. You can not get this kind of service at a hotel! We did not drive our car the whole time we were their. It was a short walk down Espalande to the French Quarter and if you walk up Espalande that is a short walk the the city park. If you are considering going to New Orleans you can't go wrong staying here!

Our stay in The Clio Suite was wonderful. Upon arrival we were greeted by Matthew . His love of the bed and breakfast as well as New Orleans was so apparent. He shared his knowledge, when asked, as to where to go during our stay. Melanie prepared delicious breakfasts with an emphasis on local delecacies. Our room was filled with incredible antiques and the frig stocked with wine, juices and water. We hope to return someday to enjoy the experience again.

My boyfriend and I just returned from a 3 night stay at La Belle Esplanade in New Orleans. I can not say enough wonderful things about our stay! Our hosts, Melanie and Matthew were so charming and so helpful. They suggested off the beaten path experiences like the Back Street Cultural Center in Treme. The accommodations were perfect. The Inn is an old New Orleans house that they have very carefully decorated to keep the Nawlins charm, with modern day conveniences. The location is wonderful, equidistant from the french quarter and city park. We were so sad to leave! We will definitely be returning to La Belle Esplanade in one of the greatest cities in the world!
