You know the experience of riding a bicycle vs. driving a car or riding inside a bus. You see, hear, and smell everything around you, just faster than walking, and stopping as you wish. FreeWheelin' Bike Tours delivered three wonderful bicycle tours with knowlegeable guides during my visit.
Creole/Crescent Tour: Teddy entertained us on a tour through the northern, middle-class end of the city, stopping for a begniet inside the largest of the city's beautiful parks. Waving to his toddler niece glued to her front window as we bicycled past her house melted my heart. On the way back, we bicycled through Louis Armstrong Park in the Treme district, another of the city's main parks. My only additional wish would have been that Teddy stopped at the sites of some of the leaning houses long enough, and at the right place, for each of us to take a photograph of his highlight.
Wicked French Quarter: My favorite tour by nature and because it was, of course, Halloween/Samhain time. Read their description and be prepared for revelation after revelation along the ride. Expert guide Mike made this tour so much fun. As a highlight, my camera may (or may not) have captured the image of ghost Josephine on the rooftop where she died. The photo is currently under study by skeptical experts from whom I will learn something that I didn't know before, one way or the other.
Mardi Gras, Movie Stars, & Millionaires: We probably ran an hour and a half over the stated time of the tour, and we all loved the extra time with Mike. We were seeing the Garden District, the very best of what New Orleans has to offer. Saw lots of houses belonging to famous people and the working set mansion of The School for Exceptional Women from American Horror Story: Coven.
My experiences on each of these bicycle tours helped me, on my first vist, to fill in the gaps of friends who have stayed in the best and worst parts of New Orleans. The deepest history is in nearly the sketchiest part of town. The bike tour is the very best way to navigate these areas. Yet, the bike tours provided the very best way to access the outer northern and Garden Districts as well through the expertise of guides who navigated us fluidly through the high-traffic zones.
FreeWheelin' Bike Tours is the best way to see the city. This family business uses only American-made, beach-cruiser bicycles, which are surprisingly nimble. When you're in New Orleans, and able to ride a bicycle, this family's tours are a must-do experience.

I'm glad you enjoyed the extra time. I love being a tour guide and could on all day talking about New Orleans! Let us know if you get conclusions regarding the orb photo. That was pretty spooky!
We really appreciate your business and come back and see us again. Cheers!
