I was in New Orleans for a big conference and all the official hotels were full. Rivers Inn is across the road from the Melrose and owned by the same management. There are only around 6 rooms, surrounding a little courtyard with a fountain. Neither myself nor my colleague are fans of big souless hotels and we were delighted by our charming rooms with their marble bathrooms (shower only). The staff really made us feel at home. Only problem was the dodgy electrics - loose plugs and unpredictable brightness - but I was told that they were revamping the whole electrics in the next few weeks. Don't come here if you want sterility and valet service. Do come here if you like old-world charm, a B&B feel and don't mind the odd imperfection.
