“Best Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

I was pleasantly surprised to find a historic building in such a great location. We were near the French Quarter, the trolley, the fine hotels, Harrahs Casino and the Riverwalk. My accommodations were very comfortable. This was a two-bedroom apartment. Each bedroom was separated by the living room, dining area and kitchen making the bedrooms very private. The kitchen was well-equipped. There was also an ironing board and iron along with a hairdryer. This apartment included a HD TV and Wi-Fi. The building had history and character. Supposedly in its early days it had been a brothel, then a firehouse. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a quiet place in a great location while visiting New Orleans.

I stayed in a 2 bed 2 bath suite. One bed/bath was recently updated, noise free and very comfortable. The other (which I stayed in) was noisy, outdated and cramped. The walls needed to be painted and the bathroom needed to be updated. I saw two cockroaches while there, but I've heard from the locals that they're impossible to get rid off. The wifi only worked half of the time and the water had to be shut off one day due to a burst pipe. Overall the maintenance could have been better.
That being said it wasn't as horrible as some reviews made it seem. The location was great, it's walking distance from the French Quarter, trolley stops, and Harrah's. The kitchen was well equipped but there were also tons of great restaurants nearby.
I probably won't return to this hotel, but if it undergoes some renovations and upgrades I would consider changing my mind.

Room Tip: I stayed in room 604 a and b. B is much nicer than A

After reading the negative reviews, I was hoping that at the very least the hotel would be clean. I was wonderfully surprised to walk into a beautiful, clean spacious suite. We stayed in room 301 of the main hotel. We had two nice bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen and livingroom. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen had everything we could need right down to bags of coffee and filters.

Let me just say that I've travelled many places and stayed in beautiful 5 star hotels. This is not one of those, but it was wonderful nontheless, had a great location and was clean and extremely comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Great location! We were able to easily walk to the French Quarter or take tolleys everywhere. We were also a block from Harrahs casino. I would definitely not hesitate to go back and stay at the Hotel de L'Eau Vive..

While you're in New Orleans be sure to visit Drago's restaurant 2 blocks over in the Hilton for lunch from 1 - 4pm. Order the chargrilled oyster appetizer for a special treat. Lunch prices were very reasonable, Also Port O' Call on Esplanade over by Frenchman street had the best hamburgers,

I am not sure on the price, as I stayed as a friend's guest in her timeshare. But regardless of the price, the accommodations are unacceptable. I can deal with the rustic charm of an old building, and did not expect a luxury hotel experience at this property. But the lack of hot water, a blood-stained mattress, and the filthy bathroom are not acceptable at any price. I also did not appreciate the unsecured dishwasher falling on my foot.

The desk clerk was clearly aware of the hot water problem, and it is documented on other reviews. Her response was that it will be better after the weekend, when there are less people in the hotel.

Our room was at the front of the building on Tchoupitoulas, so street noise was to be expected.

Room Tip: choose a room in another hotel

showing up summer 2011 the clerk seemed nice (and was) but was sad to inform me the elevator doesn't work and the only rooms he had were on the 4th floor. being disabled this might be problematic. but i'm infantry and except the challenge. the clerk gives me the room i think 90 + dollars. the room was very nice and the tap water didn't taste like wet dog. only complaint i had was the constant emergency vehicle activity and the street concert that went till 4 in the morning. all in all a pleasant stay. went back march 8th 2013 and the elevator was working so i couldn't afford to stay. 195$ this time.

Stayed here for a girls weekend. Old and old. No hot water in the shower (even if you were the first) and the front desk girl was rude when we simply asked for another key. A would NEVER stay here again......spend a little more and find a Marriott or anything else!!

When you first walk in the door you are treated by a small dingy front desk with cheap tacky furniture. Electrical cords are hanging out all over the desk, talk about a fire hazard! If you come at night good luck finding a clerk! when we came there were transients rooming the halls looking for a bathroom,no one at the front desk to tell them to leave. The rooms have charm with the brick walls but it ends there.
The rooms are furnished with cheap cheap furniture .everything is falling apart. The bathroom is a mess! The big round shower tub has cracks and mold and mildew everywhere. They have one hot water heater for every floor , which means you share a heater with 4 other rooms. Get up early or there is no hot water to shower with! Te shower curtain is hanging by a dollar store tension rod that has mildew as old as the hotel. The hand bar to grab to enter the shower is half black from mold and mildew and half of the cheap gold color showing through the mildew. The ceiling in the tub is chipping away.
Dust everywhere! Housekeeping doesn't clean well.we had a cockroach in the Closet, when we called the front desk they just offered bug spay that we could go down and get. There was hair in the sheets when we arrived. Hair on the bathroom floor.
Our fridge only had one setting, freeze. We called three days in a row and now one ever came to fix it.
The beds are old and very uncomfortable.
The kitchen is run down. Cracks in the floor. Peeling counters.dirt caked in the corners of the floor and counters. They take. No pride in this hotel, when they fix or add a new item, such as a blow dryer in the bath room, they don't bother to attach with screws! We had a towel bar fall to the floor as soon as we touched it. They don't bother to touch up paint, you can tell where old items on the walls used to hang.
The patio on the balcony is run down! Looks like it is more of a storage place than a balcony.
Do not waist your time or money here!
