“Better than ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2008

We have been staying here for years and it's better every time. Matt and Lynn are excellent hosts, friendly and there when you need them, but they also allow you your privacy. The rooms are cozy and comfortable and the garden gets more beautiful every year. The only time we stay elsewhere is when CCGH is booked. The place is extremely fun if you can get friends together and book all four rooms. It's like renting a vacation home with maid service. As long as they'll have us, CCGH is where we'll stay.

A wonderful place. The host, Matt has thought of everything. Even though it rained during our stay there were umbrellas waiting for us at the door. We stayed in one night and borrowed a movie, from an extensive list, Matt brought us a bag of popcorn to enjoy with the movie. When was the last time you received something for nothing. The place is perfectly laid out. A large shared living room with dining/kitchenette area. A well stocked refrigerator with breads, bagels and muffins, fresh fruit, juices and milk. The cupboard was stocked with a selection of cereals. There are four guest sleeping rooms. Each room has a private bath. The backyard is peaceful and relaxing. A plus after running around the French Quarter. The entire place was exceptionally clean. We felt at home and taken care of. We will be back

Decided to stay here for my birthday/new years 2007 based on reviews and amenities. Unfortunately, it didnt work out so well.

First, I got the most popular room #1 with the claw foot bathtub......what wasnt mentioned was that it only had a showerhead, no faucets, and the pressure was so low it wasnt usable as a tub! My girlfriend was all excited about taking a nice long bath, which she loves, but she tried it once and obviously it was a sorry idea.

Secondly, and the other main reason I reserved here, was the hot tub in the backyard. Without mincing words, it wasnt working, nowhere in the 6 emails I exchanged with the owner was this mentioned! The heater was broken, so the water was 62 degrees! What was going to be a great capper to New Years night pissed me off to the point of no return.

Other than that, the owners were nice, the location was ok.....if you dont know the FQ this is NOT a good place to be for that, you are at least 8 blocks from the action.......better off staying on the other side of the FQ.

Also, you arent in a real B&B as the guest rooms are behind the main house, so you never see the other guests or the owners for the most part.......and youre on your own for breakfast, the basics are provided but you have to prepare......

I really with they had been more forthcoming about the situations above.....mainly #1&2, as I would have stayed somewhere else that better met my needs.

  • Disliked — broken hottub, misleading room amenities

Crescent City Guest House was just wonderful. We have been coming to New Orleans since 1988 and have stayed at lot hotels and Guest Houses as well and I would like to say that Crescent City Guest House was one the nicest as well as the most personable places we have stayed. The large rooms were beautifully furnished with comfort and charm and even had there own teddy bears. The beds were so soft and the bathrooms were huge!! Matt our host was so nice and attentive, always checking to see if we needed anything and everything was to our satisfaction.
We really enjoyed the fresh fruit and bagels, coffee, and juice which were always available anytime you wanted them. As everyone knows its hot in N'awlins and it was so nice to come back to a wonderful cool room to relax. They also had a nice gathering room to sit and chat and lots of magazines of interest to look through. Also a back courtyard with a hot tub to relax in after along day walking around in the quarter. Table and chairs and fish pond with fountain to sit and relax by, just lovely!
We also really liked the idea that it was all within walking distance to the French Quarter, and would take the cab back at night. All in all it was a wonderful time, I would highly recommend Crescent City Guest House to anyone coming to New Orleans. I know we will definatly be coming back to New Orleans and I know just were we will be staying The Crescent City Guest House!!!!

Crescent City Guest House Review
A Great Place - She Exceeded Expectations!

A little background on us -
*We visited NOLA for Mardi Gras 2005.
*We had such a Great Time that upon our return, I immediately started planning for 2006.
*Since our last visit Hurricane Katrina killed almost 1100 NOLA citizens and caused billions of dollars in damage.
*I closely followed the news of NOLA’s recovery and communicated with the Crescent City Guest House about Mardi Gras 2006.
*In October 2005 we made the decision that if NOLA was going to attempt Mardi Gras, it was our duty as American Citizens to spend our tourist dollars there. We booked airfare and made our deposit to the CCGH.............
*Our “Leap of Faith” - Was rewarded by giving us the privilege to attend the Historic 150th Anniversary of Mardi Gras, Perfectly Executed by the Krewes, supported by the NOLA Police and enhanced by staying in a First Class B&B.
*This was an experience we can tell our Grandchildren about..........

So - Let’s review The Crescent City Guest House...
We checked in on Thursday 2/23/06 - Owner Matt Herring was waiting for us and welcomed us.
He gave us a tour of the Common Room, the Grounds and the Hot Tub.(more to follow on these)

Waiting for us in our room were 2 disposable camera’s, the Arthur Hardy Mardi Gras Guide, many strands of beads, a mini fridge stocked with diet Pepsi and bottled Water.

Upon further investigation we found a “Safe Sex” gift from Aunt Pearl in the nightstand drawer and a fully stocked Feminine Hygiene shelf under the en suite sink cabinet.
Plenty of Towels, A Luggage Stand, Plenty of Hangars in the Nice Sized Closet, assorted Soaps...etc...

Security - Well thought out - In order to access the Courtyard and Common Room entrance, you need a key to the gate.
Once in the gate - you need a key to the Common Room.
Once in the Common Room, you need a key to Your room.

Common Room - A Great Place...A Fully Stocked Fridge...
Coffee, Tea, King Cake, Muffins, Bagels, Orange Juice, Apple Juice, Milk, Low Fat Milk, Ya Da Ya Da
Low Fat Organic Goat Cheese(LOL:)).......
Free Local Phone Calls, Foot Massager, MRE’S(no joke), Restaurant Menu’s, Giant basket of Mardi Gras Beads etc. etc.

The Grounds - All Completely Enclosed by Fencing - Great Hot Tub, Plants, Plants and more Plants, Greenery enclosed private nook, Gurgling Fountain, Gold Fish Pond, Large Common Table, etc. etc.

The Summary - A GREAT PLACE - 5 Stars - Top Of The List...............
We Will Be Back!!!!!!!!!!

With the help of Google Maps and Matt's instructions in email, my wife and I pulled right up to the front door of the Crescent City Guest House with no trouble at all. Matt opened the gated driveway doors and we stashed our car off-street for the duration of our stay and walked the Quarter every day we were there.

The bathroom is easily just as big as the bedroom! Hot running water that didn't give out five minutes after stepping under the stream, good water pressure, and plenty of soap and shampoo provided if you forgot your own. The little touches like a real bar of Ivory soap instead of a wafer-thin soap cracker, or more fresh towels than you could possibly need, or the spacious closet with nice wooden hangers that aren't bolted to the rail, or the thoughtful packet left in the nightstand by "Aunt Pearl" you might need, or the foot massager by the (very comfortable) easy chair in the common room, or the complimentary breakfast available 24 hours a day. CCGH is a very homey place to stay and perfect for unwinding after tromping through the very lovely city of New Orleans.

CCGH is pet-friendly and that doesn't just mean that you can let your dog stay in your room. Matt had a selection of dog treats to welcome our dog Sasha, and he even let her our into the back yard during the day while we were gone!

CCGH has a selection of take-out menus and menus of nearby restaurants that do not deliver so you can preview your options before heading out. We received a delivery of delicious fried chicken from Fiorella's during a rain storm on Monday night and ate in our room while drying off...it was just like staying at a friend's house!

Matt & Lynn have a selection of VHS movies for you to enjoy, and the selection is nicely varied, Matt even tosses in some pop corn for your snacking pleasure. My wife and I even enjoyed the hot tub with a couple of to-go drinks from the corner bar (suggested by Matt) nearby, Friendly's. It made for a great relaxing last night for our stay.

This is where you want to stay if you intend on visiting the French Quarter and you want a quiet place to sleep with your privacy respected, your needs more than met, and your treatment to be top-notch. When we come back to New Orleans, this is where we will book our stay.

Wonder! There is no place i'd rather stay. The owners are very nice and hospitable. Very quite and peaceful. It was like a home a-way from home.
