I've just returned from a 5 day trip to the hostel and to be honest, I had been expecting worse after reading the reviews!
I didn't see a single cockroach, my room (private that I shared with a friend) and bathrooms were clean and tidy, bedding was clean if minimal. Room was cold but had a little oil radiator in and they supplied an extra blanket happily when I asked.
A very social place so can be a little noisy until the early hours, but just people chatting, no wild parties. I didn't eat there at all so can't comment on that but good kitchen facilities.
Good location, easy access by streetcar/taxi to city centre.
Staff seemed friendly and willing to help, I would stay here again, can't ask for much more for $20 a night!
