“Amazing Stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2013

This was a great place to stay for our honeymoon in New Orleans. Nancy is an amazing owner, so hospitable and kind and helpful. She made our stay so comfortable, and our room was awesome. We were in the courtyard suite, which was like a cute little apartment that had everything - we didn't even have to leave it to have a good time! The absolute only complaint, and nothing against the B&B itself, is the walk to the French Quarter, is just the right length where to walk it is a little too long and tiresome, so we took a cab most of the time. But, much closer and more authentic was Frenchman Street with good music and restaurants as well, so we were there a lot. Absolutely I'd recommend this stay and look forward to coming back.

My days at Sweet Olive started waking up to the beautiful hand painted murals, like waking up in a fairy land (Magnolia Room). Next I wandered out into the the oh so southern parlor, for a fantastic breakfast; The owner could easily be a full time pastry chef. She offered suggestions, where to eat, what to see, a real insiders view of New Orleans. She really knew her history, food, and music. The neighborhood was a reasonable walk to Frenchman, for some jazz, or to the French Quarter. The surrounding neighborhood is artsy and cool. She steered us to some great places for families with kids, and helped us stay within our budget. The Bed and Breakfast was relaxing, and elegant. dripping with history and romance (and we even brought our kids with us!) We'll be back!

Room Tip: The Magnolia and the Oak room are connected with a door in between, perfect for families. My Dad sta...

When we got to the Sweet Olive we were greeted by Nancy, the owner and host. She warmly welcomed us into her amazing home. Little did I know but some friends of ours had called Nancy ahead of time and told her it was my birthday and asked for her to arrange to have a bottle of chilled champagne waiting for us in our room, which she did with aplomb.

Guess what was waiting for us the morning of my birthday? A special cake that Nancy made on her own, from scratch. The fabulous breakfasts that Nancy creates warned us that the cake would be to good to resist! We gobbled the whole thing down. The morning meals that Nancy casually sets out in the dinning room are a single reason to return, all on there own. She is an excellent cook.

As you can see from the photos of the B&B it has its own unique and stunning charm. I cannot imagine why anyone would want to go to a boring, same old same old hotel when you can stay here. Because of the maid service? Forget it! The maid service we experienced here blew four and five star hotels away!

Nancy is your knowledgeable concierge for the duration of your stay. She is gracious, world traveled, and a fountain of information on New Orleans. Nancy is also a fascinating person, but I will let you chat with her when you stay at the Sweet Olive to find out why...

I already forgot the name of our room but it was the one near the kitchen with a private entrance. I have to say that we stayed out late a few nights and slept in late. Never heard a single pan rattle or pot clank.

To be frank, as a gay biracial couple we got the room with the private entrance because we never know how someone will react to us. We have had some unpleasant incidences in some amazingly progressive cities. I won't bother with a private entrance next time I stay here. The interaction we had with our host was one of the best we have ever had at a B&B.

Location: this is it. Never again will I stay in the French Quarter. The Marigny area is where it's at. You are just a few blocks away from Frenchmen St where you will find dozens of live bands playing to, well, beat the band! Such great music, and many different styles to choose from. If you get a little peckish there are many restaurants with amazing food. If you must go into the French Quarter you are an easy and safe walk away.

Nancy, see you next year if not sooner!

Room Tip: All of the rooms are great, two have private entrances but if you use your private entrance that che...

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, Auld Sweet Olive!
This is a beautiful historic house, marvelously decorated, and inviting. You really feel as if you might have been transported back in time a bit, there is a very southern hospitality vibe going on.

Nancy is the perfect innkeeper. Her, not at all typical, "Continental" breakfasts were some of the best eats we had in NOLA, and that's saying a lot. Fresh baked treats like eggs in a basket, cream cheese stuffed carrot cake muffins, great coffee, banana bread, homemade jams, I could go on an on, all so delish.

Rooms are lovely, comfy beds, and no shortage of AC, which in June is a life saver, believe me.
We stayed in the Court Yard Suit, which has it's own mini kitchen, jacuzzi tub, large shower stall, and private entrance w/ a sitting room, very nice indeed.

Nancy knows her stuff, the town, and where to go for fun, food, and all that New Orleans offer. The location is also a plus. Close enough to the Quarter, (you can walk there), but far enough that you don't have to deal with any rowdiness that sometimes comes with such a festive town.

If you are considering a trip to the Big Easy, this is an EASY decision to make, stay at Sweet Olive B & B.

Room Tip: All the rooms are very nice. Two of them have separate entrances, but the main entrance is a fine wa...

I recently stayed at the Sweet Olive. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there. The home is absolutely charming, and Nancy, the innkeeper/owner, is so kind. We really enjoyed her delicious breakfast. She is an excellent baker! Our room was cozy and comfy, and the courtyard was an added bonus. We slept well in our cool and quiet room, refreshed and ready to tackle the heat that is New Orleans in the summer. We plan to return soon! Nancy does such a great job, you'll want to come back again!

Nancy at Sweet Olive is great! She makes the place feel very warm and homey. And she makes delicious things for breakfast (but, this is not a European b&b, so don't expect a big spread).

Sweet Olive is a good, affordable place to stay and is a comfortable walk to Frenchman Street (great area!) and a bit further to the FQ. It has some sketchy areas not far from it, but my boyfriend and I had no problems. And you can easily call a cab to come and take you into town. One advantage is the area of town is quiet, so you get away from all the downtown NOLA craziness.

We didn't spend much time at the b&b itself, but it's a great place to chill if you want to--there is a nice porch and garden area that is beautiful. No tub room, though, despite what the website says...(it's been turned into a storage area).

The only issue I had with Sweet Olive was the noisiness. We were woken up by the breakfast preparation (we were in the room adjacent to the dining area), and the structure is old so you can hear EVERYTHING that happens in the hall and communal areas. Ask for a different room if you're a light sleeper.

Room Tip: If you're a light sleeper, get a room as far away from dining area (and kitchen, which their sit...
