“Quarter House was Great!!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 2, 2008

Stayed at the Quarter House from Feb 23 to 27th in room 226.
A two bedroom/2 bathroom timeshare with another couple.
Sat and Sun they had the excellent contenial breakfast in the
courtyard.
The room was outstanding, no problems with anything. The
Quarter House is close to everything. You can walk, plus you
don't want a car there because this is no parking and if you find
parking it is 30 to 40 bucks a day.
This part of Chartres St. is for adults, many bars, 3 topless
bars and one sex shop. But this is New Orleans, not really
a place for children. Take the kids to Disneyworld, not
New Orleans.
Everyone there was very helpful. Great restaurants were very
close. don p

I exchanged my timeshare into the Quarter House the second week of January. It was the week of the college football BCS championship, and Bourbon Steet was hopping. I have never been to NOLA before, and I couldn't have found a better spot. The Quarter House is in the French Quarter and only 2 blocks from Bourbon Street, and a short walk to the Casino. Also, not a bad walk at all to the Superdome/ Arena as I took in an NBA game that week. As for the Quarter House itself, it is very safe, the main doors are locked and you need your key for access. The front desk staff were great as was housekeeping. My unit was a nice 2 bedroom/2 bath unit, and no complaints there either. The only drawback, and it may only happen during big events, was that the parking garage the Quarter House has a contract with, can be very hard to get to, because of the streets being closed to traffic. I ended up parking a little further out, for a few more dollars. I don't even think I'd rent a car next time (maybe only for a day or two). All in all, I am hoping to get a chance to exchange into this resort again.

We stayed for 4 days, and had a very nice time. The room was clean, house keeping was excellent. Courteous at the front desk. It is close to all the attractions, no car needed.

This hotel is infested with rats/mice. We tried two different rooms and saw the rodents in both late at night. My husband caught them on video because the hotel staff/managers claim they do not have a rodent problem. If you value your health don't stay here.

The hotel is rated 5 stars by interval international, but it is no where near that standard. Rodents aside, the accommodations are fair, not superb...

We stayed at the Quarter House from 01/18/08 - 01/21/08 in a 2/2, Room 401.

Pros:
Location is great! 1/2 block from Canal - so you can hop on a Canal or Riverfront streetcar within a 1 minute walk and within 2 minutes for the St Charles streetcar. 1-2 blocks from Decatur & Bourbon. Plenty of great restaurants within walking distance. No car needed to get around. My husband and I felt safe walking around the area day & night.

Most of the front desk staff was friendly and helpful. They recommended places to do and eat.

Cons:
Do not stay in any room facing Chartres St or right next to the elevator - it is extremely noisy. Honking horns, loud music from cars, people talking loudly on the streets.

Overall the room was okay - not the best timeshare we've stayed at. The furniture was old and worn. The bathroom and kitchen is overdue for a makeover! The bathroom had a hole (probably from a old leak) over the shower and the shower pressure was awful.

The front door was thin and did not completely cover the doorway - there was a 2 inch gap between the door and the carpet so you could hear EVERYTHING in the halls especially the noisy, creaky elevator right next to our door.

We did see a man at the front desk setting up what looked like rat traps on the check in counter. I even asked if that was what they were and he denied it but immediately took them off the counter and away from sight. We didn't see any rats in our room BUT I made my husband put the spare sheets to close off the opening our room door to make sure they didn't decide to visit our room.

Overall we had a great time. We weren't there for the room - we were there for the food and sights and both were great!

P.S. I haven't had time to post pictures but will do it soon.

As mentioned by others, don't bring a car as everything is an easy walk and parking is limited anyway; that said, the location is good as long as you are aware it's a 'mature' street that's really not suitable for kids, and is situated right next to 3 bars, 3 strip/topless joints, a sex shop, and a couple of liquor stores. If you're OK with this, it is well located, otherwise stay somewhere else. If you're a guy walking down the street alone, expect to be offered a good time...

Anyway, the resort itself is tired and after several decades, they still have a sales office open - they even wanted us to move out one afternoon so they could show our unit (we declined). At first glance it looks OK and the cleanliness of service is good - however, the cleaning staff will not return if you miss their schedule. What becomes apparent is that nothing gets repaired (eg rusting vents in the bathroom, outlets falling out of walls, broken light fixtures, bare wires etc) implying little gets spent on maintenance. The biggest issue we faced, for most of the week, which made the stay miserable, was a roof air conditioner above the room being bad and literally shaking the main bedroom to the point of not being able to sleep. Calls to management to get it fixed or us relocated fell on indifferent and on ears and we got a variety of 'stories' to placate us. The manager was always 'on a break' when we asked to talk to her as apparently she's the only person in the lobby who has the power to do anything, and she never called back as promised. Eventually they offered to move us the day before we were due to check out so we declined as we wanted to spend the day in NO, not moving. All in all, it seems that staff found our complaints annoying rather than something they needed to act on.

On the surface it looks OK; three rooms in a reasonable state of decor but look closely and you see the dirty carpets and peeling decor. The kitchen lacks an oven and a few basics but is adequate in context given there's no room to support entertaining. There is no proper wardrobe space (our master had a small closet in the bathroom shared with the vacuum, ironing board etc..), no nightstands, no lights accessible from the bed, missing TV remotes, doors hanging off etc. Overall, it's scruffy and needs a lot of fixing up and is obvious to anyone so there's no excuse really. As to the vermin noted in other reviews, you'll see rat poison blocks lying in the corners of the kitchen and you'll see mice scurrying around in the evenings. Don't let kids pick these up and eat them - there is a health real hazard to having these blocks exposed and someone runs the real risk of being poisoned.

There are many steps everywhere so most rooms are not disabled accessible so check if this is a concern. All reception events were cancelled without notice. No real concierge help was available. All in all, this is a dreadful place we will never return to and urge you to do the same unless you have low standards.

Quarter House bills itself as a luxury "Gold Crown" Resort in the timeshare world, roughly the equivalent of a five-star hotel, but in our experience, the accolades are undeserved. We stayed here for a week recently and found much room for improvement, beginning with the first room we "rejected" due to a powerful musty/moldy odor. We immediately reported our problem to the front desk and they allowed us to switch to a different room. During our time there we met two other couples who had similar problems and also switched rooms. The furniture is shabby, the rooms are dark and poorly lit, housekeeping visited only twice during our one-week stay, the hallways were not kept spotless (a sponge and partially used room deodorizer sat in the hallway for days), the bed squeaked, the mattress was stained and the front desk personnel (who seldom smiled) averted their eyes when they'd see us coming. The bathroom also could have used a tune-up, with tired flooring and a worn tub in need of caulking. And don’t even get me started on the parking: Two blocks away, it cost $18 per day and required a complex system of daily validation and payment (until we were told at the end of our stay that we could have paid for it weekly). One evening they had a nice wine and cheese reception in the courtyard, which is about the nicest thing I can say about this tired old hotel. Yet we absolutely loved visiting New Orleans (our first trip back since Katrina) and encourage everyone to visit this remarkable city, battered and bruised as she is around the edges.
