**FULL DISCLOSURE: DID NOT END UP STAYING HERE**
My fiancee and I were trying to book a B&B for our honeymoon, just after Halloween 2014 (which I understand is a big deal in NOLA). We hoped to book Saturday night thru Thursday morning (5 nights); the website quoted us at $1055 (first 2 nights @$250/ea, last 3 nights @$185/ea). When we submitted a reservation request, we were told it would be $1185--the third and fourth nights (Monday and Tuesday, respectively) were marked at $250/ea, because Halloween was the Friday before. (Maybe this is standard, but including the night of Tuesday 11/4 as part of "Halloween weekend" seems to be pushing the definition.) My fiancee e-mailed the owner, Mr. Larry Watts, who was very courteous and professional and replied promptly. Mr. Watts told us the prices on the website were only updated every six months, and that the last update did not account for the price hike around Halloween; unlike their website, Mr. Watts was very forthcoming with the pricing information, and did not try to hide the price increase from us when we attempted to book. Unfortunately, we are on a tight enough budget that the difference between $1055 and $1185 for 5 nights is material, and we were not able to book a room here.
We are disappointed, because everything else about the B&B looked quite lovely, and we were very much looking forward to making this house the base of operations for exploring NOLA. From our research, it appears to be one of the nicest B&Bs in the area (and relatively affordable for what it offers), and even though it's about 3 miles from the French Quarter, we were more than willing to make up the distance in trolley fares for the duration of our stay.
I assume that similar issues would not arise on 'nondescript' weekends (i.e., not within +/-1wk of a holiday), but I did not know we would be expected to pay weekend/holiday prices for a Tuesday night four days after Halloween. We will be booking elsewhere.

It is unfortunate when people use this site to hurt a small business that has worked hard for years to build a good reputation. It is a standard practice to have a minimum stay during special events in New Orleans. In this case there was a 4 night minimum at the event price. When someone wants to book half of the days, they are required to pay the event price for the two other nights of their stay to meet the 4 night minimum. It is impossible to set up the online booking engine to calculate this. In this case the guest called and was given a complete explanation of event pricing and choose not to book the room. The B&B industry in New Orleans, as a standard practice uses this event scheduling practice to maximize the facility and cost structure during these specified timeframes. Even though this event pricing structure was explained in full detail to the potential client, it is unfortunate that this individual has caused the B&B now to loose our number one rating on this site and they did not even stay with us. Hotel booking structures are set up accommodate these requirements with their large number of rooms they sell. This is not the case in a B&B.
