“Great four night get away”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2013

We had a very nice four day stay at the o'malley house. The location was just off the street car stops on canal street. We ate at a very good restaurant at carrolton and canal named rue 127. The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. Brent was a very helpful host with tours and restaurant suggestions and takes great pride in the guests having a quality experience.

Our family stayed at the O'Malley House to celebrate my brother's 50th and we all had a wonderful time. The house is full of charm and all of the "extras" (complimentary wine, beer and soda) make you feel like you're staying at a good friend's home. This can also be attributed to Porter, the resident dog. We all fell in love with him.

As for location, The O'Malley house is in a great spot. Right off of Canal, you can catch the street car to the French Quarter in no time. There are also a handful of good restaurants within walking distance. And speaking of good food, it's worth mentioning how yummy breakfast is at the O'Malley House. My mother loved it so much, she took a bread pudding recipe home with her. Brent served up a great dish every meal we had.

And finally, a big thanks to the owner, Larry, for creating such a special place. He not only provided us with a place to stay, but a great memory we'll have for the rest of our lives.

**FULL DISCLOSURE: DID NOT END UP STAYING HERE**

My fiancee and I were trying to book a B&B for our honeymoon, just after Halloween 2014 (which I understand is a big deal in NOLA). We hoped to book Saturday night thru Thursday morning (5 nights); the website quoted us at $1055 (first 2 nights @$250/ea, last 3 nights @$185/ea). When we submitted a reservation request, we were told it would be $1185--the third and fourth nights (Monday and Tuesday, respectively) were marked at $250/ea, because Halloween was the Friday before. (Maybe this is standard, but including the night of Tuesday 11/4 as part of "Halloween weekend" seems to be pushing the definition.) My fiancee e-mailed the owner, Mr. Larry Watts, who was very courteous and professional and replied promptly. Mr. Watts told us the prices on the website were only updated every six months, and that the last update did not account for the price hike around Halloween; unlike their website, Mr. Watts was very forthcoming with the pricing information, and did not try to hide the price increase from us when we attempted to book. Unfortunately, we are on a tight enough budget that the difference between $1055 and $1185 for 5 nights is material, and we were not able to book a room here.

We are disappointed, because everything else about the B&B looked quite lovely, and we were very much looking forward to making this house the base of operations for exploring NOLA. From our research, it appears to be one of the nicest B&Bs in the area (and relatively affordable for what it offers), and even though it's about 3 miles from the French Quarter, we were more than willing to make up the distance in trolley fares for the duration of our stay.

I assume that similar issues would not arise on 'nondescript' weekends (i.e., not within +/-1wk of a holiday), but I did not know we would be expected to pay weekend/holiday prices for a Tuesday night four days after Halloween. We will be booking elsewhere.

It is unfortunate when people use this site to hurt a small business that has worked hard for years to build a good reputation. It is a standard practice to have a minimum stay during special events in New Orleans. In this case there was a 4 night minimum at the event price. When someone wants to book half of the days, they are required to pay the event price for the two other nights of their stay to meet the 4 night minimum. It is impossible to set up the online booking engine to calculate this. In this case the guest called and was given a complete explanation of event pricing and choose not to book the room. The B&B industry in New Orleans, as a standard practice uses this event scheduling practice to maximize the facility and cost structure during these specified timeframes. Even though this event pricing structure was explained in full detail to the potential client, it is unfortunate that this individual has caused the B&B now to loose our number one rating on this site and they did not even stay with us. Hotel booking structures are set up accommodate these requirements with their large number of rooms they sell. This is not the case in a B&B.

If you're looking for a quiet, comfortable place to stay, this is a beauty. It is a quintessential B&B. The house is beautifully decorated, the beds are comfortable, and the hosts are gracious, friendly, and accommodating. All the special touches from the yummy breakfasts (the berry bread pudding was heavenly) to the complimentary wine, coffee and soda add to the experience. We enjoyed our conversations with the hosts, Larry and Brent and met some nice folks. The place is a bit off the beaten path, but it's conveniently located half a block from the street car stop, so it never felt too far from the heart of the city. We would definitely stay again!

Everything--from the prompt confirmation of our online reservations to the courteous follow-up email after our departure--was done right. We stayed in Room 8 and it was tastefully decorated and comfortable. The food was delicious--Brent's Bananas Foster French Toast was something that I will try to duplicate when I return home! Great coffee, great conversation with hosts and guests and the friendly golden retriever, Porter. We have already recommended this B&B to friends and will definitely return again. Thanks!

walking into the historic home just off Canal Street, one is greeted like a friend. the charm of the people working here places everyone in a warm state of mind. Whether giving great tips, helping to find and book side trips tailored to you, great coffee and eggs benedict for breakfast, or enjoying the free beer in the courtyard with friends and new friends including the people working here, O'Malley House is a home away from home.

Stayed here for 3 nights as part of our honeymoon. It was a totally relaxing, pampering experience after 5 hectic days in New York - very welcome indeed! We stayed in Room 6 which was incredibly spacious and decadent - it even came with it's own jacuzzi! Each room comes with an iPad, ready loaded with information about restaurants, attractions, transport and tours - very helpful when planning your visit. The breakfasts each morning were lovely and varied (from blueberry waffles to omelettes), and really set us up for the rest of the day. Larry and Brent were so friendly and attentive, making time to talk to us each day and give us advice about what to see etc. Another lovely touch which makes this B&B stand out is the free wine and beer offered to guests throughout their stay. The B&B is handily located a few steps from a streetcar stop on Canal Street (the ride takes approximately 25 minutes to the French Quarter) and a 20 minute walk away from the famous, and beautiful, City Park. We would definitely recommend this B&B and will, hopefully, be staying here ourselves again some day soon!
