“Lovely Choice Near the French Quarter”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2011

We recently stayed three nights in one of the small rooms that did not have some of the amenities offered in the larger room, but was very nice for a couple who was out and about most of the time. The queen sized bed was very comfortable and the room was very quiet for sleeping. The home is beautiful, clean and comfortable with a sweet and quiet dog. We enjoyed the friendly owners and delicious breakfasts, with a different freshly made entree choice each morning. The inn is within about a 10 minute walk to the French Quarter, and on the bus line if you want to save your feet for the inside the quarter. We loved wandering around the French Quarter, but were glad to have this quiet retreat when finished. Check out the neighborhood bar down on the corner for a nightcap - low key compared to the nearby Frenchmen Street jazz clubs, but very friendly owner and staff.

My husband and I took our first trip to New Orleans and after much searching found the Elysian Fields Inn on the internet. Their website was helpful, prices were great, so we booked our rooms. Innkeepers Jim & Leigh Crawford happily answered all of our "newbie" questions about the town and made great suggestions for restaurants and sight seeing. The Inn is a couple of blocks from Frenchman Street and within walking distance of the trolley and French Quarter. Elysian Fields neighborhood is quiet and relaxing after a long day/night of fun. Our bed was very comfortable, the room quiet and very clean. Breakfast was homemade, served with a smile and delightful conversation. A great intro to New Orleans! We recommend it to all!

First trip to NOLA so we weren't exactly sure of where to stay. We knew we wanted to stay at a B&B so we would have easy "local" access and selected Elysian Fields Inn based on TripAdvisor reviews.

We made the right choice.

General Likings....
Elysian Fields Inn is run by two great innkeepers, Jim and Leigh. They were very friendly, and offered good food/activity suggestions. They accommodated our early check-in. The Inn is their home, so they take great care of it. It is clean and cozy. Jim and Leigh do everything at the Inn. They provided daily maid services and they cooked each breakfast. Some B&B's we have been to in the past do not offer daily maid services and serve breakfast far too early in the morning for "vacation mode". Breakfast at Elysian Fields is served from 8am to 10am, which is perfect if you want to sleep in a bit. They have a lovely back porch where you can sit and get some fresh air while you enjoy breakfast. The weather was perfect during our stay so we enjoyed having access to the cool breeze.

Perfect Location....
Elysian Fields Inn is a 3 minute walk from Frenchman Street and a 5 minute walk from the French Quarter. We couldn't have been better situated considering that we did not rent a car until the 3rd day of our trip. We only decided to rent a car in order to explore the Lake Pontchartrain/Northlake areas, Lower Ninth Ward, and various cemetaries. We could've done these things via tours but prefer to explore on our own. Other than that, we walked everywhere and took the streetcars when needed. Frenchman Street was our favorite area. Great bars and great music. Frenchman Street has less of a tourist feel than the Quarter - which we enjoyed. As a personal preference, we usually try to limit the amount of time we spend in "tourist areas" during our travels. If you are looking to do this in NOLA, Frenchman Street is a great option. In the Quarter, we enjoyed many of the local art galleries along Royal Street. All of this was in easy walking distance of Elysian Fields Inn.

Would Stay Again...
When we return to New Orleans, we will look to stay here again. No doubt.

We had such a great time at this B&B! We typically don't stay down in New Orleans because we live a little over an hour away, but we decided to celebrate our anniversary in style this year (and not worry about the drive home). Our hosts, Leigh and Jim, were friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Their house was beautiful, and our room was perfect. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom with the jetted tub was very nice! The location is fabulous, especially because it's in the Faubourg Marigny neighbourhood. It took us less than five minutes to walk to the best jazz and blues in New Orleans (on Frenchmen Street). We also felt safe walking through the neighbourhood at all hours. Breakfast was very tasty too! They also had ample free street parking, which is not necessarily easy to find. Thanks for a wonderful stay! We would definitely recommend this place to others!

My first visit to NOLA was made especially memorable because of our fortunate stay at Elysian Fields Inn. As you step inside the door, your breath is taken away by the beauty of the interior of this gorgeous structure. My favorite area was the spacious common room where we had breakfast. Light and airy, it was a perfect place to sip wine, rehash the day, or browse the large selection of books, magazines, CDs and artwork the innkeepers have accumulated. Innkeepers, Leigh and Jim, are remarkable in their own right. They love their city and are true ambassadors of its diverse culture. Exploring the city by foot, trolley and cab, I was immensely impressed by the friendliness of the native residents. Frenchman Street, a stone's throw away, was memorable for delectable fried chicken at Brasserie Marigny and swing dancers at Maison ripping up the floor to Washboard Chaz' Palmetto Bug Stompers. With so much to see and do in this lively, colorful city, it was comforting to have the Elysian Fields Inn to retire to. I have stayed in many such establishments and must rate this Inn at the very top. Same said for the caretakers, Leigh and Jim. Thank you both for the memorable stay.

We went to New Orleans to celebrate our 28th wedding anniversary. We had not been to NOLA since the hurricane and we were not disappointed. Leigh and Jim are gracious hosts and their home is so lovely and comfortable. Their home is within walking distance to Frenchman Street, French Market and the Quarter. Leigh and Jim's knowledge of NOLA was very helpful to us and certainly made our stay even more meaningful. We highly recommend the hospitality and the comfort of the Elysian Fields Inn.
