We stayed in room 602 of the Saint Hotel on Canal Street in New Orleans. The location was excellent as it was 2 blocks from the start of Bourbon Street but was much quieter and cleaner. Canal street has a streetcar that goes north to the cemeteries as well as the City Park. The hotel was also 3 blocks from the St. Charles streetcar, which goes into the Garden District.
Our room was small but stylish. It was painted all white with a navy blue ceiling and carpeting. Some of the amenities were a Keurig coffee maker, a mini bar a large "laptop" sized safe, a flatscreen TV, a good sized desk with easy access plugs, an alarm clock, hairdryer and iron and ironing board. We never touched the mini bar ( the bars are open 24 hours a day!). We never turned on the TV ( the bars are open 24 hours a day ) and we never needed the iron because as soon as you stepped out of the hotel, you walked into a wall of humidity - instant wrinkle remover. The room was dark due to the fact that the lone medium sized window looked onto a interior light well. The windows of the opposing rooms were about 15 feet away, so keep those curtains closed!! We suggest you ask for a room with a view. It would have been nice of the front desk to have offered us a room with a view, seeing how we were staying 5 nights.
The bathroom was a decent size with a large shower but no tub. It was all white, so it felt spacious. The bed was comfy with lots of pillows and a huge mirror as a headboard and there was lots of storage with drawers and a large closet.
The negatives for this hotel, unfortunately center around the service. The personnel are relaxed and friendly, but sometimes they were a little too relaxed. There seemed to have no standards with regards to the daily maid service. There was always something missing. One day it was no hand towels, then another day, no bathmat and then finally no towels whatsoever, Room card problems also popped up, when on the third day of our stay, our room cards were deactivated ( and we were in a rush for dinner reservations ) and we were always taking bets on whether or not the doormen would open the door for us. ( we didn't win most of the time ).
However the granddaddy of these service related issue would have to be what happened on our arrival when we were assigned a room that already had a very hungover man sleeping inside. Good thing he had left the "I've Had a Hell of A Night - Do Not Disturb " sign on the doorknob outside. ( We knocked first .)
But not to end on a bad note, we have to say that most of these problems with the towels and the cards were cleared up quickly and kindly. This hotel is somewhat new ( there was construction on the second floor and the much advertised rooftop deck was not open....maybe this fall. What is ready for your visual ( and other ) enjoyment is the main lobby with lots of light and high ceilings, the sexy red Burgundy Bar and the big Alice in Wonderland oversized chair that you've probably seen a thousand times in the Trip Advisor traveller photos. ( so we won't add ours to the pile )
The Saint is well situated, well designed, but they need to concentrate on their service standards so that the whole experience will be better.
