We stayed at this guest house in November 2012 for three days and we could not wait to leave. The room was worn and shabby, the bed creaked and the television worked only occasionally. We suffered a personal emergency whilst in New Orleans and the staff were not only unhelpful but gave us misleading information which led to us making the 25 minute walk into the French Quarter. DO NOT STAY HERE IF YOU ARE A TOURIST IT IS NOT WORTH YOUR WHILE

They are certified bed bug free..... but how about the other bugs. It was absolutely terrible! A long day of traveling and we just wanted to lay down and sleep. We pulled back the covers and 5 bugs scurried. Then we cleaned that off then we looked at the night stand and there were 10 different sized bugs. Little ones and HUGE ones we had to leave. Its looks fun and should have been a great piece of our story.

Okay, let me start off by saying that this is a hostel and, being a poor college student, I opted for the cheaper option for my New Orleans trip and booked at St. Vincent's. The location is great (15-20 minute walk from touristy places), and the staff is pretty friendly, plus the building is old and has a lot of character. The problem is that, being an old building, there are also a lot of issues. The pipes are not great and there's practically no water pressure, not to mention the tons of cockroaches that get into the room from the pipes. None of them are that big, but they are annoying because they crawl on the walls and some actually got into my suitcase, so I had to shake them out of all my clothes (yuck!). Really, this place had some cleanliness issues. It looked like they didn't do a very good job cleaning up or just generally maintaining the building. Overall, this was a good stay because of the convenience and price of the hostel, but if you're freaked out about bugs, I definitely would not recommend it.

We saw an ad for this place at the Amtrak station and it looked great, the building is full of potential and really quirky and interesting however this is not a guest house, it is a hostel with several multi occupancy rooms as well as 'private rooms' . There is a communal kitchen which is filthy and as a result there are cockroaches in the bedrooms. We had to keep the light on to keep them at bay. The furnishings, sheets and towels are worn out and need to thrown away and replaced. You have to pay on arrival and there are no refunds. We dont mind roughing it a bit but there is a certain basic level that is expected and St Vincents doesnt provide even that. On the plus side, the location is fantastic, the people are very nice and it is extremely cheap.

St. Vincents is a little rough around the edges and the front dest is a bit unorganized, but for the price and location you really can't beat it. If you don't mind the bare rooms and occasional bug or two its perfect. The courtyard is great for hanging out and meeting fellow travelers. Also, get to know the staff. They are wonderful and super helpful.

My friend and I stayed at St. Vincent's in October and we had a great experience. The staff was very friendly and in a good mood. There's a $10 deposit for the key you get but that is given back after you check out. Our fees were waived because we had to leave very early in the morning. Once we checked in, the man at the desk politely explained to us how to get to our room. We had a king sized bed. The room was clean; no sign of any kind of bugs. We checked the whole bed for bed bugs and dirt - the covers and pillows were clean. The bed mattress itself had another cover which is there to prevent bugs from entering. The bathroom was clean as well and we had clean towels too. We had TV in our room - cable was working fine. Yes, the hostel is a bit outdated and I'd suggest taking out those green carpets in the bedrooms for easier maintenance. The AC in our room was not working but we slept comfortably.

We didn't expect much from the hostel based on the amount we were paying. It is a hostel... not a hotel. So if you have lower expectations coming to the place, you won't be disappointed. Overall, we had a good experience and we would come back to St. Vincent's if we ever travel to New Orleans again.
