“They did it again!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2014

We stayed here prior to a cruise out of N'awlins. This was not our first stay at Federal City Inn and Suites; and they did it again. The rooom was all we could have asked for; clean, large, and well supplied. The desk receptionists (Sylvia and Audrey), who were here on our last visit, were still here and still as friendly and gracious as before. We certainly enjoyed our stay and enjoyed meeting other guests while there. So, as I said, they did it again; gave us a great place to stay and treated us with genuine hospitality. I'm sure that we'll be back again. Thank you for starting our vacation off so pleasantly!

Good Afternoon Captain Ronn,,

I am excited to hear that our staff did it again. It is valued customers such as yourself that make us strive to do even better. I will let Sylvia and Audrey know that they exceeded your expectations.

Please note that we will do it again and even better on your next visit to our area.
We will begin an enhancement to our Hotel beginning in July and finishing by the end of August.
looking forward to seeing you again.

A friend and I came to New Orleans for a relaxing vacation to take pictures and attend a book conference downtown. The Federal City Inn is close to the Ferry that took us to within three blocks of the conference hotel downtown. Our room was very clean and having the kitchenette allowed us to save money heating up leftovers and having breakfast in the room. A car is necessary to see the sites, but that added to our adventures. It is located on the old Navy Base that is currently closed, but still being used. I felt very safe seeing men and women in uniform.

We stayed at the Fed City for 8 nights, having extended our stay twice as we liked it there so much. It's away from any noise (super quiet at night, perfect for sleeping) with a huge laundry room for mid-trip clothes freshening, and in-suite kitchenette. Parking is free, an amazing thing in these times. We rented a car (for free, using points), which made the Fed City the right choice for us, allowing us to be able to zip into the City any time we wanted to explore, especially outside of the French Quarter. There is much to enjoy beyond the Quarter! The only downside to Fed City was the stickiness of the flooring, both carpets and kitchen lino. We wore footwear as socks were getting grimy. But for the price, and the solitude, it was perfect for us.

This place is clean, staff is friendly and helpful, LOVED the kitchenette, cuz we stayed 4 nites, so we could have cold drinks, some food in the fridge, plus having dishes and silverware, the stove, microwave, etc. We liked that it wasn't near the hub-bub of the FQ, but negotiating the taxi situation, was a little precarious. Soooo, we took a taxi from the airport to the FQ, after we landed...which cost about 30 bucks, which is standard...but then, that driver tried telling us that we would have to pay an extra 14 dollars a piece, to go over the bridge(over the Mississippi) to get to our hotel and didn't explain why...which was total b.s. The situation is this, some taxi company's have only certain sections/area's of town where they are supposed to take and pick up fares. Soooo, before getting into a cab, ask what is standard and what is extra...cuz we found a great guy, named Charles, who ended up being like our private driver..:-). He would pick us up and take us back to the FQ..and only charged us the going rate, which was 18 bucks, 1 way, for 3 people...which was the right way to do things. It was worth the taxi fares, to us, to go back and forth over the bridge...so, we could stay where we were...vs...the price of a hotel in the FQ for 1 nite. We figured out that we spent about 300 bucks total, for taxi's, split between 3 people...that's 100 bucks a piece, for 4 days VS 1 nite in the FQ, at a hotel. We SAVED a LOT of money, that we then used to do other schtuff with. :-) If you want to pay for the convenience of staying in the FQ go for it...but if you are ok with how we did it, that's cool, too. I just hope that this review helps, either way. :-)

Room Tip: I would pick a room on the lobby entrance side cuz you can look out and see the water tower for the...

Spent the night there before our cruise because it was reasonable and close to New Orleans. We didn't have a car and that was a huge mistake. There is nothing really close by to go to for a bite to eat or drink but that was OK because our plan was to go to the French Qtr and then back for a good night sleep before the cruise. Taxi's are very expensive so the ferry is the way to go. It used to be free but they now charge $2.00 pp. It's a farily long walk to the pier, especially on a hot day so you can catch a bus approx 2 blocks from the Hotel and it drops you off close enough to the ferry. The last trip back is at 8 pm so you would have to take a taxi back. Other than that, the workers were friendly and the bed was comfortable. We probably wouldn't stay there again, but if you have a car and is on a budget, it's not a bad deal.

The Algiers's area of New Orleans is the second oldest settlement and the Algiers Point area does offer unique entertainment and dining attractions different from the French Quarter if you have the time. We would like to see you back on your next visit to our city.

My stay is awesome, love the location and price. I love staying on the old base because of my memories. Very clean and affordable, and is located on the West Bank, so you will need transportation. If you love to walk, you could it's 3 miles one way.

This hotel is very clean, has a little kitchenette, is in a very quiet area so great for sleeping and the staff, especially Vincent were extremely nice and helpful. Now for the bad. If you are planing on being in New Orleans, French Quarter especially, the location is terrible. Map quest or a GPS will tell you that is is only a few KM's away but that includes water. To get around the water you can drive 11 km, but then you are stuck with a car in the french quarter which is pricey to park and not fun to drive in. The other option is a Ferry. The ferry no longer takes vehicles, just people on foot and only costs $2 a person. This would be a great option except it only runs until about 10 - 1030 pm, the parking there costs $20 and if you would prefer to walk it is 2.5 km from the hotel to the ferry. We did walk it several times but it is pretty time consuming. There is a nice path and lots of street lights to keep the walk safe but overall this hotel is very far from all the action of NOLA. This hotel is located inside a Navy base. We did not have a bad experience here but it is not very convenient if you want to be in the french quarter.

The Algiers area is the second oldest settlement in the New Orleans area and is one of the most diverse neighborhoods. The Algiers point area /ferry landing offers excellent dining and entertainment.
