“Awesome boutique hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2011

This hotel is great. It did take some googling before deciding to book here due to quite a few poor reviews in regards to noise, but no regrets for doing so.

There is some noise from the club on the ground floor, but we had rooms on third and fourth floor, so it was not so bad. We had both A and B rooms facing Gravier street, and D and E rooms further back in the hotel. The latter are preferable due to quite a bit of noise from the street, especially from people standing outside the club smoking and yelling. But really no problem unless you are a light sleeper.

The modern contemporary design of the rooms is hard to come by in New Orleans, and it is really clean and trendy. I love the place, and will definately be back soon.

Only a few minutes walking distance from French quarters, Bourbon street, the Mississippi, Harrahs casino +++

This is a good location if you want to party and don't mind sleeping above a nightclub. If you want a restful night's sleep then look elsewhere. The rooms are spacious but the shower water pressure is lacking.

We were very impressed with Loft 523 before we even arrived. We had contacted the hotel to try and get an early check-in due to the time of our flight and they tried their best to accommodate us. Moreover, upon arriving we were upgraded to a much larger room for no reason except that it hadn't been booked and that we were welcome to it if we wanted.

The room we got is highly recommended. It is #2E on the second floor and features a huge loft-like living space with an office nook, a living area and a huge bedroom. Moreover, there's a back private terrace. We also had the opportunity to see one of the rooms on the third floor and while not as large seemed excellent as well.

The contemporary style, the urban location, lofty space, iPod docs, free Wi-Fi, etc., would make this a natural choice for many 20-40-something urbanites that are seeking something akin to their place of residence.

Admittedly, there are some noise issues on the 2nd floor on nights where the bar downstairs has an event (mostly weekends I think). Even with all the sound-proofing, you can still hear the bass until at least 03:00 in the morning. It is always quiet by 04:00 though. This may be a problem in most cities, but in New Orleans you'll likely find you are home around the time it's ending downstairs or later so it isn't really an issue for many. Still, if you still think this might be an issue, simply ask for a higher floor.

All around, it's a clean, stylish and surprisingly affordable hotel close to the best of what New Orleans has to offer.

Staff was super friendly and helpful. Wanted to stay a bit off the "big hotel grid" and Loft 523 was my ticket. Had a room on the 3rd floor, it was huge, modern and very very loft like. Bed was super comfortable, had a docking station for my iphone, fast free internet, dual shower heads, excellent design. Perfectly located ( right off canal ) on a quite street (gravier ) - Definitely a must stay if your into boutique hotels..

My husband and I stayed here for a prebirthday celebration during January 2011. I made SURE to get a room on the 4th floor in order to avoid the noise from the club downstairs. I should have also requested the back of the building. Even from the 4th floor, the thumping music can be heard.
The staff consists of one person per shift that watches over the lobby. Every single time we walked through the lobby the "personal assistant" had ear buds in. It seemed futile to try to talk to a person with ear buds in. The decor is minimalistic, modern and very well thought out, but I think thats where the planning stopped.
There is a definite odor in the hallways and lobby. I understand old buildings have issues, but inscense is NOT the answer. The smell when you arrive is sickenly sweet. The room, however, was odor free.
Shower was equipped with two heads, and great tile, but no water pressure.
There was not a soda machine on the property. I was told to "go to the restaurant on the corner."
If you drive, be prepared for $30 daily valet. It cant be avoided.
Good points: The location is awesome. The beds are comfy. The decor is cool and trendy. The electronics in the room are new and modern.
All in all, I would recommend this hotel to a young crowd. If you need a full service hotel : (room service, ice buckets, a cocktail at 5 pm) skip it and stay at the sister property, the International House.

My husband and I recently stayed at Loft 523 on a trip to NOLA for the Po Boy Fest. We loved every detail of our loft and were blown away by the size and sleek decor. Upon entry through a hammered copper door, we saw the large bathroom complete with a super-mod Italian tub. The bedroom had a king bed on one side and a sitting area with a separate space for the desk on the other side. Just when we thought this loft could not get any more spacious, we saw a door that lead out to a private patio area. We usually frequent Starwood hotels when we travel and this boutique hotel ranks right up there (or exceeds) any of the places we have stayed.
