“Room never cooled down”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2014

Was here for a meeting- the food was not good and it was overpriced. Very hard even to get to valet parking- great location but real aggravating with the room not cooling- staff was professional but not exceptional. This is not a property I will stay at in the future.

Dear Kwajkid007,

We appreciate you taking the time to post your comments. I am sorry to hear that you did not have an exceptional experience with us. It is unfortunate that you found our valet hard to get to. I apologize that your room was not a pleasant temperature, the thermostats are set on motion-sensor mode so it can affect the temperature in the room. Our location on the corner of Canal and Bourbon Street can be a very busy area and somewhat of a challenge for guests. I apologize on behalf of the Astor Crowne Plaza and we do want all of our guests to be comfortable and enjoy their stay at the hotel. I hope this experience will not be your lasting memory of our hotel and will consider coming to visit us again so we can have an opportunity to change your mind.

Sincerely,
Alicia Smith

Arrived early morning and checked bags. No questions and very helpful. Check in was slow. In all fairness, they were having a big dance competition at the hotel, but they really stuck to the the 4:00 p.m. checki in time. Recieved our room after about 30 minutes waiting. They were accomodating to our room request. Get higher in the main tower. Room was nice, not exceptional, but very clean and comfortable. Enjoyed the night. The next morning, we came back from breakfast and notice a strong sewer odor. Hoping it would go away we left spent the day out and came back and odor was still present. Had noticed a gentleman in a black suit from the hotel in the hallway on our way in. My wife went down and he came back with her to the room. He was exceptionally receptive and said he would see about getting us a new room. His name was Terrence and the hotel should wish they could clone him. He was wonderful. He came back in less than a minute and said a bellman would be up with a key with a room we would find acceptable and also a mini-suite. Within 3 minutes, a gentleman, also dressed in a suit arrived with the keys. We told him we didn't need a bellman and went to our new room. It was nice with a sitting room, and separate bedroom. We were very pleased. Our second night was also very nice and restful. Can't say enough about Terrence's response. He was great. Overall, this is a nice hotel and would stay there again in a minute. Great location and great customer service. At check out, it was very quick and since it was prepaid, out without a problem.

Room Tip: Free Wi-Fi with frequent traveler membership. Stay in main tower...higher is quieter. Some lower r...

Although we received a great rate, not one of my favorite stays. A dance competition was being held in the hotel at the same time as our stay so the lobby was very noisy and people were camped out all over. Kids were roaming on the public balcony area, climbing the rails and throwing things down onto the street with little supervision. Our room was very small with only a shower and no tub. Certainly would stay again if the price were right but no other reason to stay when there are much nicer places nearby. No parking on site so I would recommend using Premium Parking lot #P145 right around the corner for $25 a day.

Dear Mmrojas,

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments. I apologize that you felt our lobby was very noisy and your room did not meet your expectations. We did recently have a dance competition group with us and it was a busy and exciting time for the attendees and our hotel. Our lobby can sometimes become the central place for people to meet and hangout, but we are always happy to know that our guests are comfortable and enjoying themselves while they are staying with us. I apologize that you witnessed some kids causing mischief on our balcony and their parents were not monitoring them properly. I can understand how this could be frustrating for you to experience. We do our best to control those situations but as I am sure you appreciate it is not always possible. We hope that this will not discourage you from returning to our hotel and you will come visit us again whenever you are in New Orleans.

Thank you,

Alicia Smith

I stayed at the Crowne Plaza Astor for business for 5-nights. My company chose the lodging.

First, the area is very busy. If you have a car, you will pay $35 to park plus tip. Dropping it off and getting it out of parking can take up to 20 minutes so plan accordingly. This is a busy hotel and it is right on Canal and Bourbon Streets. I ended up in the historic section overlooking Canal in room 4440. The room was nice but the people yelling and knocking on the doors till 4am and the music and noise from Canal was too much. Ear plugs did nothing to reduce the noise. After the second night and asked for a new room. The staff was very pleasant and helpful and put me on the 12th floor in room 1244. This was a much more quiet are and you could look out over Bourbon Street.

The rooms are fine however I just don't understand how Holiday Inn Express' can offer better amenities. There is no refrigerator in the room. Everyone gets free Internet. It is basically worthless at 256k especially if you are there on business. If you want 5Mb of speed you will fork out $14 a night.

There is a restaurant but breakfast is not included. There is McDonalds and IHOP close by for breakfast and lots of restaurants close by.

The staff was pleasant and helpful. It is just very very busy at this hotel.

If you have to come to a convention and stay here please know you are right in the party-zone action and it is all night, every night. The stay was okay.

Just understand what you are getting into and understand where your room is facing and how high up it is. This will have a big impact on how much you sleep unless you are one of the ones out all night and knocking on the doors then it won't really matter.

Room Tip: Stay out of the historic section especially those facing Canal and Bourbon Street unless you are the...

Dear Stargazem31,

Thank you for posting your comments about your stay with us. I am sorry that you were not informed that we have Valet parking only, this is mentioned on both our website and third party sites. Our location is in one of the busiest places in the city and it can be quite a challenge for our staff to get the guests car to the hotel quickly, however we always aim to be as quick as possible. There are some guests that notice the street noise when they are on the lower floors, but I am glad that we were able to move you to another room. I apologize that we do not have fridges in our guest rooms, however we do have a small amount on hand for guests that request one for their room- we do charge a $25.00 one-time fee. We hope that you will decide to visit us again whenever you are in the city.

Thank you,

Alicia Smith

The hotel is in a great location. Our car did get scratched while in valet parking. The hotel is not over this group so be careful and check your car. The staff at the hotel was friendly. Toilet ran but we closed the door and did not hear it at night. Air condition works very well always cool.

We stayed at this hotel during our June visit to New Orleans because it was convenient to Bourbon Street and the photos were enticing. What a mistake! Our room was unbearable - smelled bad and the air conditioning was not working. Called three times to complain - three maintenance men came and "fixed" the problem - NOT!!! The temperature never cooled off below 80. Changed rooms for the second night and the next room had the same problem. One of the bellman who told us stories about Katrina was the only saving grace of the whole place. Had dinner in the hotel one night since we were exhausted from no sleep and spent the whole day touring - food was slightly better than average and the cost was ridiculous. This hotel desperately needs cleaning, renovation, and spend the money to replace the air conditioning system!

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your comments. I apologize that your time with us was not memorable and you felt our hotel needs a renovation and cleaning. We recently had new lobby furniture added and all of the carpets throughout the hotel deep cleaned. It seems you stayed with us at a time that the coolant system failed in the hotel over one weekend in early June. This was an isolated event in our hotel and our Engineering Dept. attempted to repair the issue as quickly as possible. However, a part had to be ordered and shipped in from out of state so it took a few days to be resolved, but it has since then be fixed. I apologize again on behalf of the Astor Crowne Plaza that you did not enjoy your time with us. I am glad that you enjoyed your meal in the Dickie Brennan’s Restaurant. I hope that you will consider visiting us again and give us an opportunity to provide you with a much better experience.

Thank you,
Alicia Smith

After a very unfortunate experience at a friends home stay we needed to move to a hotel. Stressed, emotional and also a little worried we walked into the Astor Crowne Plaza at 6.00pm with a little hope and optimism they may find us a room at such late notice...I cannot speak highly enough abouth the experience provided to us by the receptionist , a young lady called Theresa at the lobby desk. I am not writing this because she got us a room but because of the way she handled us, both very professionally and with what we felt real care and consideration for our dilema. Crowne plaza is lucky to have Theresa and a very valuable assett to her employer.

Room Tip: Request high floor....
