“Location Location Location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2013 via mobile

We have enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Astor. The staff is very friendly and attentive. We stayed on the Executive level floor, and were given a room on the even numbered side. This meant we had a view of a brick wall and one story overhead of us, it was covered, so the room was rather dark. It did make a good crash pad, as it has been quiet. (We won't mention the parties who were pounding on the door near us at 4 AM, thank goodness for the ear plugs they supplied.)The location was convenient. The down side to it was the shear number of people walking and crowding the sidewalks in front of the hotel on weekend nights, making access a little inconvenient. Worth a re-run!

Stayed two nights at this beautiful hotel located right on Bourbon Street. Hotel staff was superb and dining experience was wonderful. Stayed in a suite and enjoyed the Executive Lounge privileges that came along with that...so would highly recommend an upgrade splurge if you can. WOW, what a fitness center! And we didn't use the rooftop pool because it was chilly but it would have been perfect.

Room Tip: Would avoid a room overlooking Bourbon unless you are ok with the noise at nights, especially on wee...

Want to spend 15-20 minutes waiting to get your car from valet parking? Want to stay in a cramped room? Our first room had a view of the fans for the gigantic HVAC units - and it was noisy - and the room vibrated from the fans. So we asked to move. So, they sent us down a winding hallway and put us into a cramped room with a tiny bathroom. The counter in the bathroom was so small it was crowded with just a box of facial tissue and a bar of soap. It appeared fairly clean, but the furniture seemed just a bit old and scary. We were extremely disappointed and moved out after only one night. (See my review of the Roosevelt!)

Room Tip: never saw a god room in this hotel.

Me and my family stayed at the Crowne Plaza for the Saints game and it was the most amazing stay we have ever had in New Orleans and it is all because of the wonderful employees at this Hotel especially one very special person Pamela Green who works in the Executive Lounge. She made us feel like family every single day that we were there. She is a very special person and we miss her already. When your away from home you never know how your going to be treated and everyone at the Crowne Plaza was wonderful. Thank you Ms. Pamela!!!

We stayed at the Crowne Plaza Astor for close to a week during a conference in New Orleans. It was so conveniently located. They are located on the corner of Canal and Bourbon Street. They are far enough away so you are not bothered by the noise from Bourbon Street, yet within walking distance from heart of downtown. The hotel was so nice and clean. The staff was also great!! We came during a very busy time in New Orleans, yet everyone was so attentive and pleasant to deal with. I will definitely return to this hotel. I highly recommend it!

Very nice hotel near the French Quarter usually priced more reasonably that comparable hotels in this area. The rooms in the main part of the hotel are clean and spacious. The staff is very helpful.

The big challenge of this hotel is its location on busy Canal Street which makes dropping off and picking up your vehicle a minor nightmare when traffic is heavy. Vehicles are parked several blocks away and valet is really the only option. I must say though, the valet staff does a great job of trying to make up for this challenge so unless you are getting your vehicle several times during your stay (probably unnecessary because so much is within walking distance) then this hotel is still a great choice.

Room Tip: Rooms in the main building are superior

As an IHG Gold Elite member, I am used to nice upgrades at member hotels and truly appreciate it. Well it appears that the room I was originally given on the executive floor disappeared when I arrived, and was given a room in the historic wing. The room I was given looked over another window and had no ambient light. I appreciated the fact that I was still given access to the executive lounge for breakfast in the other wing. The breakfast was a bit unusual, it had eggs on one day and breakfast meat the next but never the two together.
Another issue with the room was that the thermostat controlling room temperature did not work. The room remained at 66 degrees no matter what I did. Also the room had a chair an ottoman that were stuck in the corner of the room and totally unusable.
During my stay, the front desk staff as well as the staff in the breakfast lounge were awesome. Extremely friendly and helpful.
While sounding negative, I give this Crowne Plaza 4 out of 5 stars. I am sure you could do much worse at many other hotels with this great location.

Room Tip: ask for a room in the canal wing.
