“3 1/2 stars: not bad, but room for improvement”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2012

We stayed at the hotel over the long Labor Day weekend, right after Isaac. We were impressed that the hotel and staff were at full speed, with nothing seeming off due to the hurricane. We had asked the general manager for a room on an upper/quiet floor and were put on the 6th floor facing an old building and a parking garage. It was fairly quiet, save the guests' shouting and talking at the top of their voices at wee hours of the morning. The room had a very odd set up (positioning of furnishings) and a small leak over the credenza that the TV was on. The lock on the door needed new batteries (you really had to JAM the card in several times to get a read) and the TV remote also had dying batteries (...we did ask for a replacement, but never got fresh ones). The beds were comfortable after you climbed up into them (they are REALLY tall to get in and out of). The bathroom was generally clean, but there were some stains on the fabric shower curtain and in the grout surrounding the tub. The lighting was generally bad in the room and the safe was ridiculously small and hard to reach (on the wall in the closet). The concierge was fantastic and friendly, even though he did suggest a restaurant in the Quarter that had been closed for quiet some time. You cannot beat the location. However, paying for wifi seems a bit ridiculous as there are some bars on Bourbon that give you access with the purchase of a drink...would be nice if it came with the purchase of the room!

This hotel is in walking distance from everything from the Superdome, French Quarter, Great Restaurants, the RiverWalk, and every bar in between. When you walk outside your very likely to hear a second line band playing great music.

Hotel Staff is very helpful. Rooms are your average Crowne Plaza hotel room (Very Comfortable), but you shouldn't be in your room when your in the French Quarter. Depending on which side of the hotel your on you will have French Quarter European Style room or Updated American Style Room.

Room Tip: The European Style Rooms are Closer to Canal in the Front of the hotel. May be louder, but you can...

OK we are on a roll now....Thank you for your kind words! I love your choice of words regarding the two towers in the hotel. The Astor does offer both options....old world charm or modern appeal. It is folks like you that really make our jobs fulfilling....Thank you for making my day and rest assured your review will be shared with our entire team.

Bottom line: I would stay here again.

This hotel has several reviews and can confirm, you want high and away from the street if you want peace and quiet. The hotel was in full rehab mode last week during our stay. We were one of several guests in a wedding party that were sprinkled about several floors - every one of them had rehab going on in one wing or the other. So you had some noise from that, including some jackhammer type sounds during the middle of the day [when you were most likely not in your room].

We did have to change rooms as the 1st had the loudest air conditioner, louder than my lawnmower. But the front desk took care of us immediately and were very apologetic. As for location, it is perfect if you want to hit the sites and action....and stumble your way home. :)

Room Tip: $33 cab ride from the airport beats $31/night parking

Thank you for your review and patronage. Yes, unfortunately the hotel experienced rain water damage in the main tower from Hurricane Isaac. I do apologize for the inconvenience and sorry you had to be moved, but delighted to read that it was taken care of swiftly. Our hotel is back to normal and all repairs have been made...so when will we see you again? We appreciate you patience during our rehab and again thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on the Astor.

The beds are like clouds. It is hard to get out of them to see the city. Beautifully decorated, elegant, happy staff make me glad I will be here seven nights. you can walk to all the sites of the French quarters. Small bathrooms are my only complaint

This hotel was like any other hotel. Very basic. The rooms were very basic, no refigerator, nothing to talk about. Carpet was dirty, however everthing else was okay. The location is what sells this hotel.

Ouch, no hotel wants to hear they are regular. I am truly sorry we did not exceed your expectations, which is always our goal here at the Astor. We hope you will give us another chance the next time New Orleans is on your travel agenda. I am confident your next visit will be quite different. Thank you for your review.

Called hotel seeking parking info; was told only valet parking was available. Later discovered several parking garages within reasonable distance (for half the hotel's charge, bet my car was in one of those garages). Room was very acceptable, C-SPAN on TV, but no frig. Coffee supplied only first day, walked to front desk on 2nd day asking for coffee, clerk refused to give me any - said that some would be sent to room. Half hour later still no coffee, went to front desk again and suggested hotel provide me a cup of coffee from cage across from front desk. Clerk said "no way, just waite on your coffee to be delivered to your room." I say "but I amd checking out now, only waiting on car to be delivered by your high priced valet service." Clerk's response: BLANK STARE.

You are right...there are plenty of hotel rooms in New Orleans and it is the staff that makes the difference when it comes to a hotel. I regret that we missed big time regarding your expectations. Please know, the hotel responded as they should regarding our parking question. Valet praking is the only service offered regarding over night parking for our guests. Our pricing is one of the more economically priced valet services in the downtown area. To better prepare you for your next visit to New Orleans, there are several self parking options in the downtown area, however there are no in/out privledges with these lots. This more economical option would be fine if you will not be using your car during your visit. Again, we regret that our staff did not rise to the occasion regarding your visit and please know this is not the norm for our team. We hope you will give team Astor another opportunity on your next visit to New Orleans. I am confident the team will exemplify true southern hospitality which is what we are know for. Rest assured your review will be shared with our team and we thank you for your review and patronage.

Nice hotel good location terrible service!! Rude front desk staff check in was a nightmare. Room key didnt work every night we stayed. Dirty linens Just not worth the trouble. We stayed on the executive level and were treated terribly - very very rude staff. Rooms hot due to the motion sensor controls. Hotel restaurant and bar staff slow and not friendly at all. Don't waste your time or money on this one. Spend a few more bucks and stay at the ritz or Roosevelt
