Stayed here in early December 2007 at the end of a business trip to visit a friend. Great to see New Orleans coming back (although 9th ward and other areas still not fully recovered). Nice hotel and nice holiday decorations. Air conditioning in lobby not very good. Did not get the room I booked (and I am a priority club gold member!) nor did I get priority club welcome package. Night attendant who checked me in (arrived close to midnight) was not very friendly -- and I had to wait in line for almost 15 minutes (which is no fun when you've traveled all day and expect express treatment as a PC gold member) but he did change my room without difficulty when I asked. (Wanted smoking and was given nonsmoking, but had to go to room with luggage and come back downstairs on elevators with luggage (see below) to get room changed). New room (#311) was much larger (but very oddly shaped and kind of dark; sitting area nice, but two chairs would be better as a small loveseat) and air conditioning did not work. Worst problem was no internet at all (not wireless or even cable!) Had to go to lobby for internet. Elevators were horrible (they really need to fix the timing). Had to wait -- no kidding -- 10 minutes for an elevator on two occasions. Also, air conditioning was fixed when I called for an engineer. Bathroom was sub par. Amenities were minimal (like an average holiday inn) and, despite my asking for it, no bath mat in bathtub which made me feel as if I was going to fall every time I took a shower (not safe!). Otherwise, a good hotel. Right on corner of French Quarter, so good location. Also walking distance to Aquarium (Hurricane on the Bayou at IMAX theater at aquarium is a MUST SEE) and walking distance to casino.
If elevators were working on a more normal, well-timed basis and if the bathroom amenities (including bath mat) were better, would be a 4+. But, for the price I paid, it is only a 3.
