I was booked at this hotel for two weeks in May while I was at a convention in town. The hotel was noted as a small boutique hotel. When I arrived they could not find my reservation. My company had booked 12 rooms there, but they did not have my name in the reservation. I was surprised to learn that you are required to pay a $6.95 fee per day for phone and internet use. I stated that I generally use my personal cell and not the internet. I was told it is a mandatory fee charged to each guest. So I inquired if it is a mandatory fee, why is not just included in the price of the room. The clerk could not answer, only that it was hotel policy. After getting settled, it was a nice hotel and had basic amenities.
In the middle of my stay, there was a number of thefts from guests rooms in the hotel. My room had items removed and it was not cleaned that day. While I was at the front desk making my theft report, I spoke to a number of other guests who came to the front desk with reports of items taken from their rooms. I completed my report with the front desk and asked to see the manager. I was told she was in a meeting and would contact me as soon as she got out. I never received any contact from her. I stopped at the desk each morning before I left for the day, would call during the day and stop at the desk when I returned. I left messages with my concern for not being contacted. When the hotel manager would not return any of my calls, I contacted her on her personal cell phone. She told me the matter was reported to the police and it was being investigated. She told me it was a former employeee who was dismissed three months earlier. I inquired why the person would still have a full access key to all rooms three months after being no longer employed there. She could not give me an answer, only that it was being looked into. I continued to try to contact the manager each morning and evening for the remaining 5 days of my stay and NEVER received a return call. The front desk could only tell me she was very busy and that the matter was still being investigated. They also assured me a police report had been made, that no action was needed at this time on my part and that the manager was working with the insurance company to cover the losses. Also, my room phone stopped working and could not be fixed after the second day so all calls were made from my personal cell phone. I was told by the building engineer that the problem could not be repaired and I could switch rooms if necessary. I continued to call the manager daily and NEVER received a return call. I sent emails every few days to find out what action was being taken, still no response. After a month of no response, I received a "junk" email from her, stating that no one entered my room except for me. She stated that only two rooms were compromised. I asked about cleaning employees entering my room and there was no response.
In addition, the bar located in the lobby was open all night, playing loud music. When I left each morning, the bar was just closing. While the location is convenient to the French Quarter, the noise from the trolley made me feel like I was sleeping out on the street. This, along with noise from the building construction next door, added to my overall displeasure with the hotel.
My opinion of this hotel is extremely negative. I understand that thefts can happen, but the lack of ANY customer service from the hotel staff and manager to resolve the issue was appalling. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
